A meeting of the Media Security and Reliability Council at the Federal Communications Commission will convene this morning. A number of satellite TV executives are participating on the council, along with other leaders from the media, cable and telecommunications businesses.

On the satellite side, the council's membership includes DirecTV President and COO Roxanne Austin, EchoStar Chairman and CEO Charlie Ergen, News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch, XM Satellite Radio President and CEO Hugh Panero, SES Americon President and CEO Dean Olmstead, Pegasus President and CEO Mark Pagon, and PanAmSat President and CEO Joseph Wright.

According to an FCC spokesperson, executives can either show up for the meeting or designate someone to take their place at the council.

The council is a federal advisory committee that reports to FCC Chairman Michael Powell, who will also participate in the meeting. The council will aim to address the study and development of best practices designed to assure the optimal reliability, robustness and security of the broadcast and multichannel video industries.
