I'm going to be picking up a new PC, but don't want to be locked into "only viiv" systems which are getting harder to find.

Is it going to require that?

No. It's just that a Viiv system WILL do Mediashare per the "official" specs. As long as you PC can meet what is needed, you will be fine.

Viiv is not required at all. Windows Media Player does a decent job, and TVersity does an even better one.
