Tried to find some other posts on this issue because I know I have seen some posts on it in the past:

Lately I have been missing the last 30 seconds to minute of most of my recordings that are on the local channels. I have not received the latest software.

Now, the wierd thing is, my old DTiVos work just fine.

It has to be less than a minute because the time on the DVR appears to be in sync with the network.

However, this past weekend, for instance, I atempted to record the Rudolph, Frosty, Frosty returns shows on ABC (I think) and the end of each one (Except the last show) was at the start of the next.

This has started happening with Medium, Earl, Boston Legal, etc. I have padded my series links, but that causes other issues.

Has anybody else had and fixed this problem?

I had the same issue with that slew of Xmas shows recording in SD (don't have OTA yet). Here's the recent thread:

http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=72464&highlight=auto+time+zone

Remember too though that sometimes it is in fact the network that's delayed or at least giving bad guide info - even on a Tivo. Those Xmas shows appeared to be way off to me (like more than 30 seconds), but i can't remember exactly.

I have always had that problem, even with my tivo. I am not sure that you can fix the problem unless you go into the recording option and add one to five minutes to the recording time. However, if you are like me, the overlapping may cause problems with subsequent recordings. However, I don't think you can do anything about time issues. I don't think it is a software problem. I think it is a problem with the networks and d* time (even when they appear to line up).

Regarding Frosty and Rudolf, I and others had this problem too. (there was an earlier post from others reporting this). I think other than padding there is no other work around. The clock is controlled by the D*. It's rumored that the networks play around with their start times to mess up DVR recordings. I don't know if that's just paranoia. But lately I've been missing the ends of a lot of programs, too -- I feel your pain.

I think the networks do that kind of stuff on purpose. This happens all the time with me. Happened when I was with Dish Network. It happens just as frequently now.

It probably has something to do with the timing of your local affiliates and/or the network you're watching.

Lame IMO...

It's not rumored, the networks have been doing it for years. Fox and NBC are the worst offenders. You'll find most Fox sitcoms at 8pm will go over at least 30 seconds to a minute. It's a ploy to get you to stick around for the next show. There is nothing you can do about it since the networks aren't following their scheduled end time. I have the same problem on DirecTivo's and you'd have the same issue on any DVR.

The Tivo's do better with timing than the HR-20... of course I'm recording OTA. I think it's the lag of getting the HD from the satellite that is really messing things up. I know my OTA is a few seconds faster than the sat. I frequently have to go to the other "Tivo" TV to catch the last 10-15 seconds of a show... especially on Fox when they give you the last 30 seconds of tease and drop you right into the next show.

There could be a few extra seconds in the decode process if you've recently upgraded to an HR-20 and you're now getting MPEG-4 locals.

I suppose you could pad your recordings but the reality is this problem is not going away.

And if it wasn't happening at the end, it was happening at the beginning. The networks used to start their shows at 58:56, more than a minute before what would show up as a scheduled time on a DVR recording. I'll bet that changed with the DVR, and now if they can't get you at both ends, they'll settle for your rear end. ;)
Goodbye commercials and traditional ads. :nono:

I noticed that myself and set just about everything a minute longer. I wondered if the Satellite delay had anything to do with a few seconds chopped off... It's about 7 seconds plus.
