MLB Blackout - This time its D*'s fault!

1932 Views 30 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  zimm7778
Right now, Indians - M's game is blacked out on D*. Why would that be? Been a while since there was a D* blackout that was there fault. But, this one definitely is! I'm sure for my own sanity not getting to watch an M's game is a good thing, but this is frustrating. (especially when I couldnt watch yesterday either, due to MLB's bs blackouts)

Due to the ESPY's the ESPN blackout started at 3pm instead of the usual 5 pm. No west coast games are on EI.

That's the biggest piece of BS I've ever heard.

Not from you, but from MLB.

Wow... MLB has found another great way to screw us real fans.
F - ESPN. Thanks for the info though... although if it wasn't MLB i wouldn't believe you. Unreal

Yep. MLB seems to go the extra mile to antagonize their real fans. Sad but unsurprising.

(Nor is ESPN among my favorite entities.)
Then why aren't the games blacked out on MLB.TV. Very disappointing! I can watch the Giants' game on my PC but not on my Plasma....

Somebody needs to stand up for the fans...Where the hell do they think the money comes from?
Read The Lords of the Realm by John Helyar. It's a little dated, having been written in 1994, but it's still a fascinating look at the owners of baseball. After reading it, you'll never be foolish enough to think it's either the fans or even the game itself that is the most important thing in baseball. It's money and egos.

Plus there are great stories. Before reading The Lords of the Realm, I never knew why Harry Carey was fired by the Cardinals. It was for schtooking Gussie Busch's daughter-in-law. :eek2: Oops.

Same with Saturday early afternoon games -- available online but not via EI. It is indeed disappointing.

And stupidity...
Re: MLB Blackout - This time its D*'s fault!

So from what you folks are saying, this time it's not D*'s fault?
Come on This is ridiculous. We Can't even watch the Brewers @ Giants game all because of a B.S. MLB Rule. Come on every one of us need to write Bud Selig and tell him to end these silly MLB Television Contracts that keep fans from watching games due to exclusivity of ESPN and FOX
I was watching the Brewers/Giants this afternoon on FSN Wisconsin. Where do you live, Msguy? I'm just outside of LaCrosse, WI.

I just turned the TV back on. It's 2-0, Milwaukee, in the bottom of the 5th. Nice HD picture, too.

I'm really being a killjoy this afternoon, in this and in other threads, but you folks should get your facts straight.

1) The blackout is MLB's fault, not DirecTV's.

2) The Brewers/Giants game is on TV right this very minute.

3) Egos rule everything in baseball, with money coming in a close second.

I'm turning off this board for the rest of the afternoon/evening. I don't like being such a spoil sport.
See less See more
i'm not in Brewers Territory so I wouldn't get the game. I'm in Northern Mississippi
This really sucks. So, for the rest of the season, we won't be able to see any games that are broadcast from the western half of the country, on Sunday's. That's alot of games. A question. How many of the remaining ESPN Sunday games do you think will involve a Boston or New York team?

So just because ESPN wants to broadcast the NOT live ESPY's in primetime tonight, we have to be subjected to a blackout for 4pm games. I understand the MLB blackout rules, but this one really seems wrong. ESPN has plenty of networks, they could keep their Sunday night game at 8pm and show the ESPY's on ESPN2. As an Indians fan, this is two days in a row where my game has been blacked out, and my team won yesterday and is winning today. With the way the Tribe's season is going, I like to be able to watch the wins whenever I can, they don't occur too often!

Not even close. Ask before jumping to conclusions. This is a one-shot deal. All other West Coast games will be broadcast. The ESPN game was bumped up two hours for the ESPYs.

As Carl Spock said, please get your facts straight -- not just you Jeret, but everybody.

Absolutely, it's a one-shot deal. Personally, I think that since ESPN itself made the decision to change the time for today's game, the West Coast afternoon games should have been made available to EI folks. But MLB says no. Regardless, DirecTV is blameless and it won't be an issue the remainder of the season.

+1 and this one happens every year. It's the first Sunday after the all start break.
This is why these sports packages are ripoffs, especially EI
