While watching ESPN's broadcast of the LA vs. SD game Morgan and Miller were talking about the Dodger's "leadoff" hitter Dave Roberts, and Morgan said that while many believe that getting on base is the most important thing for a #1 hitter, they are mistaken. It is speed that matters most. Not necessarily stealing bases but the ability to go from 1st to 3rd, etc. and how the threat of that speed forces the defense to play differently.

I guess we'll now have to change the old adage from "you can't steal first base" to "you can't go from first to third or force the defense to play differently while sitting in the dugout after making an out." Then maybe Joe will see the flaws in his logic.

Does he just make this stuff up as he goes along?
