My SWM8 is on order and will be here in a few days. I must mount the SWM8 right at the dish. I know the power inserter must go inside and that's not a problem.

My question is: Are there already mounting holes on the slimline dish or support that the SWM8 can be mounted to? If not, has anyone mounted a SWM8 to a slimline dish with a minimum amount of drilling?

Thanks!

Nope. no holes.. you'll have to make your own bracket..

Why does it have to be at the dish?

While it is weather resistant, anything you can do to keep it out of the elements will make it and you much happier.

The dish is the only place where I can connect the SWM8 to the two cables that go to two halves of the house where the receivers are located. Without doing a major new cable rewiring, the SWM8 has to be located at the dish. And I don't want to redo the cables because they are buried underneath the new siding that was put on the house two years ago - nice and neat and out of sight, but inaccessible.

You can zip tie it to the EL slot. That is what we do around here with switches. Just make sure all wires come from below so water ingress is avoided.

Why can't the SWM be mounted inside? Currently the 4 cables from my slimline dish go to a box in a room upstairs. Two of the cables are connected to HR21s (one 1 tuner each) and the other two lines from the dish go to a 2x16 multiswitch (existing installation before the HRs and Slimline). That is how the DirecTV guy set it up when he installed the slimline. I want to get both HRs to be able to use both tuners as well as provide expansion options for future HRs. I plan on getting a SWM8 and installing it in the box where all the cables have been run. Would that be ok? By the way, it is a fraternity house with 20 bedrooms, hence the 2x16 multiswitch.

It absolutely can be mounted inside. It just defeats one of the purposes that allow you to only run one cable from the dish to the inside of the DU.

Doesn't mean it can't be done.

Well there are already four lines into the box in the house where all the other 20 lines to each room terminate. Just want to be able to use two tuners for my HRs without running more coax.

If I were in your shoes, I would do it. :) Totally understand what you mean.
