I have a question for everybody out there in the know. I am moving again! (another issue but nothing that anyone else can help me with) I used my Movers Connection this year and I know I will have to pay for another movers. My question is with SWM supposedy being deloyed nation wide soon can I get a SWM setup with the following hardware.

2 - HR21s
1 - R22
1 - R15

Is there any chance I could get a SWM setup? Thanks for the help.

There is a possibility, but it probably is slim. Just depends on the installers in your area.

SWMs are technically for new installs with 5+ tuners. But who knows, the movers connection could be considered "new" in a sense and you might end up with a SWM.

From what I was told a movers is considered new because Directv does not want to lose customers to competitors in that case. I have 8 tuners in that case (4 DVR equals 8 tuners). I will call this weekend to find out for sure. I have until mid November till I move.

You could use a SWM but the SWM slimline LNB won't work for your setup. Your
R15 doesn't support SWM. if you got the old SWM(i.e. not integrated on the LNB)you could hook the R15 to the legacy ports. Your HR21s and R22 are SWM compatible.

Question then. What if I asked customer service to upgrade my R-15 to a R-22 or ask them if I went to a local Best Buy to get an R-22 woudl that qualify me for a SWMline. I basically am willing to do anything I can to get a SWMline.

and the only way to get the SWM-8 module is buying it on your own as in directv's eyes it is for commercial/MDU use only.

Additional question then. What if I get a SWM lnb for a slimline and request that the HSP send a SWM certified tech (I will work with their schedule at that point). I basically want the install to be easy without running too much wire. I have again 4 DVRs (3 SWM and one non SWM which I will upgrade if I that gets me a SWM install). Otherwise I will find an independent dealer in the Portland, OR DMA to do a swmline install out of my own pocket.

A movers connect does not qualify for a SWMLine install at this time.
I heard as of the 8th of October that SWM is standard with movers and new installers of 5 tuners or more (in my case I have 8 tuners).

The memo I have makes no mention of movers either way, just "installs". So, YMMV. Until told otherwise, I'll go by the new installs only stance.

DirecTV doesn't (yet) have any program in place to upgrade non-SWM receivers to SWM-compatible receivers, which is why SWMs are limited to NEW installs only.

If you got your own SWM LNB, power inserter, and SWM splitter, I'm sure the installer would be happy to install it for you, but you'd still be left with an R15 that wouldn't work, and you would likely charged to "upgrade" it to a SWM-compatible receiver.

If I replace my R15 with another R22 then I think I might be ok. I will call movers connection to see what I need to do. I might ask for a credit to get another R22 since I have paid full price for all my equipment but my R15. I don't want another receiver free but something discount wise. I will give you feedback when I find out what will happen. It would be interesting for anyone else who is moving that has all SWM equipment.

I can probably guess that this doesn't apply to you, but if by some chance you are in a 72.5 market that is going to HD locals soon, all of your old equipment will be upgraded to SWM-compliant (not because it is SWM-compliant, because it is MPEG-4 compliant, but all of those are SWM-compliant) at no additional cost to you. I had two SD DVRs and two SD receivers (D10's) that were upgraded to H20's and R22's......I was pretty lucky in this case, although they did not install a SWM dish or module, as the installer said he had never seen one yet! Anyway, like I said, I doubt you're in that kind of market, but if your locals are on the 72.5 dish right now it might be worth a call to see when they are switching over.

Also, if you are a customer in good standing, I would be really surprised if they wouldn't give you some kind of a deal on a receiver, especially if you were willing to lock yourself in for a new programming commitment. When I signed up for mine, they sent me a free HR-21 (charged me $19.99 shipping though) if I would renew my commitment for 2 years, and i can't imagine them not doing something for you.

i am going to be in Portland, OR so no mpeg 4 migration. i have no taken any freebies (expect my movers in March, which I will have to pay for this time). I forgot about the R16 even though I would rather have the R22 (for on demand). I will see what I can get from a CSR.
