I just purchased a demo HR10-250. The access card that came with the unit is broken in half. I had a heck of time getting it out of the slot. I have an access card that came with one of the generic receivers that is turned off and I don't use. This is a receiver they left when I signed up for service in Oct 2006.

How difficult is it these days to get a CSR to move the card? I searched the forum and could not find the name for moving a card. It is like re-attach or sometihng. What is the verb they give this procedure?

I did the same thing about 6 weeks ago with a new HR10-250 that I purchased and the first CSR I contacted did it really easily with out any problem or charge. But it turned out the card was already on and I was paying for it per month in error.

Thanks for any help.

Yes, you can still have them re-pair the card with this receiver. The only thing you may have to do is hang up and call back a few times (CSR Roulette) before you get someone who will do it. They technically will send you to their access card team to get a new card since you are activating a "used" receiver.

D* may send you a new card. Some older cards are not compatible with the new receivers. Periodically D* sends out all new card, making all the old ones useless.

You are "MARRYING" the card to the receiver.
Depends on what period the cards are as well as previously posted.

what are the first 8 digits of the card?

I used to know what card prefixes were, and I can guess if it will work for you. If it should work, be advised, that if you started service in 10-06, then the receiver listed with that card is most certainly "leased" not "owned", so you may want to simply knuckle down and ask for the card department, so they can:

1) sell you a new card for 20 bucks
2) activate the receiver as "owned" when you call back and get that dept again.

Hope that helps.
