Moving Soon - How to Make Sure of Best Deal and Install?

1368 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  RollsRoyce
I am moving to a town home soon. I have been with D* since 1996. I would love to get an HR34. I plan on using Roadrunner for Internet.

The new place is per-wired for Brighthouse cable and is about 6 years old.

What is the best way to get the HR34? Will I be eligible for one under the movers deal?

And how can I make sure I get someone who knows how to really properly install the equipment. I have read various installation posts in this forum and it seems like most of you know when an installer is doing something wrong or not as optimally as possible. I will have no idea about any of this and will be at the mercy of the installer.

Anyway, sorry if I posted this in the wrong section (also posted in the installation section - so sorry for the double post).

Thanks for any assistance or thoughts.

Just let them know what you want, there isnt really a way to know what offers your eligible for since its based upon your account history, so offers vary from account to account, just tell them what you want and see what they can do for you. as far as how to get the best installer. They cant request a specific person, honestly when i got mine installed i just talked with my installer, i had him explain what he was doing and made small talk. And he came off as a very knowlegeable person.
Thanks, Rolls. Just got off the phone with them. HR 34 for $99, upgrade to whole home and credits of $25 a month for HD, etc for a year. I am pretty happy. I didn't fight real hard. But thanks for the reply.
That's an excellent deal.

When the installer shows up, take a couple of minutes to walk/talk through the installation and make sure both of you know exactly what is going to be done and how. It is really important that you tell the installer that you have, and plan to continue using, cable and that he can't use that existing line.

I'm in your boat. Some of us seem to be on a different list. ;)
Well...are you guys moving? I think that is the only reason I got any deal. To be honest, the rep wasn't going to really do much but move my service then I told her want I saw on the D* web page for movers including free upgrade to the whole home, free movie and sports pak and Sunday Ticket at no additional cost. After I raised these issues, she told me i had an old receiver eligible for an upgrade (which I do, an older Samsung T-160 that I sue for PIP) and told me I cold get an HR34 for $99. Then she said I could not get the free movie/sports pak or Sunday Ticket Max as I already subscribe to them. I said that's not really fair. I am being penalized for being a good customer. She said wait a minute and came back and said she could offer the credit. So I said sure. Now all I have to hope for is an installer who knows his stuff.
Sorry, I didn't mean for that to sound snotty but after I read it later on it did come across that way and I apologize If anybody took it that way. That wasn't my intent. I was only trying to point out that they gave me the deal because I was moving. If I had just called straight out they probably wouldn't have offered me anything.
Personally i didnt think you sounded snotty, and you kinda have to mention getting offers to them. But yea even if i moved i still would have to pay full price xD
