Is there a way to tell if you are watching a MPEG-2 vs. MPEG-4?

Being in NY , I select the first Ch. 2 (WCBS) in the list (which is the HD version).
I beleive the channel selection would default to MPEG-2, but ....

Any help or clarification would be appreciated.

No it is not Mpeg-2 on ch 2. It has been Mpeg-4 for at least a year on a spotbeam. Mpeg-2 version is on channel 80, which is going away.

Only channels in the 80's are Mpeg2. Everything else is Mpeg4. Mpeg4 should look better.

In NY DMA, there are currently either four or five locations for WCBS, depending on if you have "Show SD Duplicates" selected in your Display Settings.

HD Channels
2 WCBS = HD MPEG4
80 CBSE = HD MPEG2 (soon to go away permanently)
390 CBSE = HD MPEG4 (new permanent location)

SD Channels
2 NY2 = SD MPEG2 (only visible if "Show SD Duplicates" is selected
380 CBSE = SD (not sure if this is MPEG2 or MPEG4, but I suspect it's MPEG2 as it's the Eastern DNS for SD CBS))

If you key in "2" and see "2 NY2", you're on the SD MPEG2 version (and have "Show SD Duplicates" selected). if you see "WCBS", you're on the HD MPEG4 version.
