Tomorrow, live from Radio City Music Hall in NYC, Jimmy Fallon will be hosting the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards. I can't wait, I missed last years awards but did watch the 2000 VMAs. I still remember Shawn Fanning in a Metallica T-shirt introducing Brittney Spears, then a minute later, HOLY CRAP! :D And Eminem and his Slim Shady clones and who could forget that guy from Rage that climed on the ceiling. Preshow starts at 6:30PM and the awards start at 8. I can;t wait for Eminems With Out Me act and what ever Linkin Park is doing.

WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!! This award show is pathetic, Pink comes on stage half drunk, no rock at all besides some rock rap, Eminem didnt do Without Me, but rather Cleaning Out My Closet, but he didn't even finish the song. Jennifer Lopez needs another make over, Jim Fallon is not that funny most of his jokes are lame. The only reason I'm watching is so tomorrow morning when they make fun of it on the radio I know what they're talking about. This is a huge dissapointment!
I agree. If seemed disjointed and slow compared to other years. I liked the opening number that Jim Fallon
Bruce was pretty good, I liked his performance.
Usually when there is a MTV awards show it has a special feeling about it, an excitement, a chill in the air.

This years show did not have that at all. The crowd did not seem into things and was poorly miked.

The video was terrible, I dont know what kind of cameras there were using but it was more like watching a movie then an awards show, it didn't feel live. It almost felt fake.

I didn't like the show, and Guns & Roses sounded like crap and couldnt remember the words to his song and was our of breath.(Besides Axl was there anyone from the origional band there?)

The MTV Movie Awards were much better then the VMA which is MTV's crown jewel.
Scott... Did you tape it? If so, check to see who the live Front of House engineer was and who the Broadcast Audio Engineer was. Thanks.
No I didn't tape it, although knowing MTV it will reair 30 times in the next two weeks.

I am hearing that the show is shot in HDTV but in a 24 FPS mode this is why it looked wierd.

It would be ok I guess if it was SHOWN in HDTV, but it wasn't you shouldnt have seizures from watching a music awards show. :D
I had the whole 5 + hour (preshow, ceremony and post show) event on my 501 but just erased it an hour ago.

RE: didnt the vmas look like it was taped weird?

Folks,
The VMA was "taped" using a techniaue known as 24progressive. It is a digital process which can create a "film" look to video. The entire process is described in an article that appeared in an online video magazine a few weeks ago.

MTV wasn't sure they were going touse till the last minute.

The consensus of opinion amoung videographers that I have spoken with is that it was NOT a good idea. It created a funky look that was not appropriate for this type of show.

24P is tough to do correctly..and the conversion to standard definition 4:3 TV's is tricky.

MTV claims that they may even shoot in 16:9 24p next year. I hope they change their mind.

What a dissapointment with Guns N Roses :( Damn AXL ruined one of the best bands in rock. He was the only original member and Dizzy(keyboardist from 90-93) was there too.

All of these folks will become redundant anyway as of Tuesday when the Rolling Stones kick off their 18 month world tour in Boston and fill stadiums coast to coast to maximum capacity.

Roll On Fellows
I watched the VMA's, and yeah, for the most part, they were lame.

Maybe because I'm just a fan of the guy, but I thought Jimmy Fallon was a TERRIFIC host.

That opening sequence (after Bruce) was perhaps one of the funniest things I'd seen on that channel since Mike Myers hosted the Movie Awards, and Beavis & Butthead.

Jimmy Fallon sang & danced EXACTLY like the artists he was lampooning. Classic stuff.

Not that we needed any more proof, but is it any less obvious now that Eminem (while talented) is the dumbest, stupidest, most immature "rear end" in America? What an idiot.
