My Dish Experience

Two years ago I had Dish Network installed in a new apartment. I had asked for a DVR that could record one show while I watched another. The installer came and installed the service on time and it was the best picture quality I have ever seen for a cable/sat service. There was no contract and this was in February.
I soon found out that they had left the wrong box and I could only record what was being watched, they said that was that. In March I recieved a bill for a $50 pay per view event that I neither ordered nor viewed. After getting them to remove it finally (4 calls) I had a password placed on the box restricting pay ordering. By April a tree was growing in and I started to lose signal, eventually the picture wasn't watchable and when service came they said there was no way to make it work writing that on the slip. I called to cancel service repeating what their tech told me verbatum. They told me if I ever wanted service I would have to provide a deposit because I had canceled and then told me I had to get on the roof and retrieve the dish itself or the LNB. I found an installer to give me one and sent everything back.

Despite the experience I am considering getting the service again. The DVR while not providing the two tuners (that won't happen again) had tremendous functionality way beyond my cable DVR. The picture was like a DVD and the cost of programming is much more reasonable than cable.

I'm looking for feedback on how to order it and avoid what I ran into before. Where I live now has a clear line of sight with no trees. I also don't understand why they'd want a desposit from me because of their problem. Maybe because they had to pay the contract installer anyway. I haven't called to order yet so maybe thats not even going to come up.

Call DISH and get the facts then if you still have questions come back and I'm sure you will have several offers to help.
Given your trouble, and apparently an install which was problematic - you might also try [email protected] -- explaining the problems you had the first time. I had the same problem with my first dish install. The guy who did it apparently didn't understand that trees grow and branches are moved by wind. I would get extreme outages during storms (half hour - hour). Eventually I lost all ability to receive a signal. When I climbed up to check the LOS (after finally cancelling the service) - it became obvious what the problem was. I did come back after awhile because cable really wasn't that great and I missed my DVRs. But "normal" Dish Customer service usually isn't very helpful. But I found the [email protected] much more helpful.
