My HR20700s died sunday at 11:45 AM

Hi I am new here and looking to see if this has happened to anyone else.

I was livid sunday and now I am so mad and turned off by directv that is a joke.

So it is 11:45 am I am about to sit down and watch the early nfl games. I have people coming over for the 3 cowboys giants game. I was planning on watching the skins falcons game.

I have the new dvr, total choice plus, hbo, sunday ticket and now the HD Package and superfan. I have had the dvr a little over two weeks.

So I sit down at 11:45 to watch the skins game and the channel is all jumbled as all sunday ticket hd games are for me. So I reset the dvr. It gets to step 2 acquiring satellite info and then says cant find signal and flickers back and forth between the two, after about 10 minutes of this it just says acquiring guide data program!

So I am sitting there like what the heck? SO I restart it again, then again only this time unplugging it, then again this time unplugging it and the satellite lines in.....

Same thing over and over.

So I call d-tv. Then after about 20 minutes of being on hold I explain and get sent to about 5 different people. None of them had a single answer or any help at all. NOne of them offer me any rebates or money back, they just tell me sorry. So I finally say so I am just crap out of luck and the girl says to me yep sorry! Then she throws in this at least you have the other tv working, the standard def. I nearly went crazy.

I am like I have company coming over to enjoy my 50 inch plasma and my expensive directv dvr and hd package, not to mention the expensive sunday ticket with superfan.......she is like oh well sorry.

So she sends me to a girl who gets my info and tells me they will overnight a new dvr to me and I will have it by tuesday, now it is wednesday and I still dont have it. I missed football that day and monday night on espn.

The only good thing is that I went and bought an OTA and watched the cowboys game in HD that way and the OTA had a better picture than directv IMO.

SO now my question is has this happen to anyone else? DId dtv give you any kind of rebate? Any suggestions on what to tell them when I talk to them? I am giving the new till 5 central to get here then I am going to read the first person at directv that answers the riot act and start demandind some money.

Please let me know if anyone else has had this problem?

Welcome to the forums, Todd. :welcome_s

D* did give me a small rebate for the costs of having extra receivers online while I await stability. I think $5/month for 6months.

Considering that the HR20's were basically free, I am not yet terribly upset. And I think I see more stability with the latest release.

Good luck,
Tom

Thanks for the welcome!

I paid 299 plus tax, so I paid 324 for my dvr. I wish it was free. Maybe I can at least get that 5$ a month rebate.
This happens to me regularly. The only way I found around it is to unplug the unit for at least 15 minutes, then try it again. You may have to do this several times, but eventually it worked for me.

As far as rebates, call D* and ask for customer retention, explain how frustrated you are, and ask for a credit against your account. They may offer free Starz or Showtime or $$$ or all three.

Wow. SO you had this same problem?
SO I just tried it again, for the first time since sunday and it came on, but it is still stuck with acquiring guide data on the screen and I cant change the channel off 073, espn HD.

I am going to call in a few and see what they can do for me.
Theebs,
Shot in the dark, but are you using HDMI? If so, power down and disconnect the HDMI from both the receiver and TV. Use component, composite, or S and reboot the system. If you can get it working again, power down and try reconnecting the HDMI on both ends. Some people have reported hardware handshake probs with HDMI.
I have the same exact problem. DirecTV tech just left and said Tuner 1 is not working. When the TV says acquiring guide data, if you go to menu, then signal meter, you'll see what tuner is not working. I'm just as pissed as you right now. This is so frustrating.

Ironically I tried components sunday, no effect. I havent tried it yet today though, I dont think it matters though.

Would this cause it to keep the acquiring guide data on the screen? I really dont see how.

thank you for helping though, I really appreciate it. Would be nice if directv could help.

Yeah that is what I did, I have tried three different coaxial cables and run them each way into sat 1 and 2 and nothing helps.

I am really upset that this is happening to a bunch of us. They take my money for their service no problem every month.

You may have a bad LNB at the dish...there have been a few cases of that reported and they were resolved with replacing the LNBs...actually all of them. Once you confirm it isn't the cables (and hopefully not the tuner), the only thing left is the LNBs.

You can also try removing the BBC boxes that go between the cables from the dish and the HR20 itself. There are two of them.

The other thing I would try is to unplug the HR20, let it sit for about 5 or 10 minutes, then plug it back in (and maybe use component only while doing this, leave hdmi disconnected) It doesn't sound like you have much to lose at this point.

thanks for the help

It was unplugged for three days, so it should have cleared the memory by now!!!!
Well I got the new one from fed ex about 45 minutes ago, hooked it up and then activated it.

Right off the bat I realise the one I had originally must have had a problem because the caller id never worked and this one did, then it said there was a software update and it is doing it right now. The other one did not do that.

Then I called and they credited me 10 bucks towards my superfan. I am not happy that is all they did. This is a slap in the face in my opinion. I am going to call again in a couple of days.

Hopefully there will be no more problems and this dvr will work.
we can't help you with that :) , but if you have any other probs let us know.

Well I guess I spoke to soon, It is not giving me the correct local channels now.

I live in Dallas and it is giving me the ny locals and they are not working. Plus the searching for satellite in signal 2 keeps popping up.

333-337 are all jumbled the way the hd football games were sunday.

I really dont have the patience for this anymore after losing a day of football. I restarted it and I am hoping that will help. If not I have to get on the phone and sit on hold again and explain the whole thing to them, then they will have me reset it .......makes me want to pull my hair out.

How did they get away with charging three hundred dollars for this?
Do you still have the B-Band converters installed? If so, take them off. Otherwise it seems like hasan might be right about the LNBs. Can you test signal strength on your 2 tuners?
Also - when you say correct local channels, what do you mean? Were they listed before but have since disappeared as being available? BTW the locals from the national markets like LA or NY wouldn't be working anyway.
ok so now I called and they changed the locals. Now my normal locals are listed.

This is nuts. I was getting wnyw 5, ny's fox I think, but I am in Dallas! What I meant was in the guide. The guide shows your locals from 2 to 60 or whatever for your market, but I was getting ny's! Not at 80 but at 2-60!!!

333-337 do not seem to be jumbled anymore!!!

I hope this is over with.

Again thanks to everyone for their help
Sounds like they were just pushing the wrong data to you.

So your next test will be for Sunday :)

Press guide twice and type 720 on your remote (this will be the first HD channel on your SuperFan). Press the green button on your remote to jump forward to this Sunday at 1pm EST (make your time adjustment for your time zone). You should see Viking @ Lions HD already scheduled. If not, call D* and make sure they're pushing ST data to you. If they tell you the data doesn't show up until gametime, they're lying. The only way you might not see the data is because of a recent reboot which causes a new download of guide info. Give it another day and try again.

(Only posting this last bit cuz the trouble started with your NFL ST :) )

Not to nit-pick, but 719 is the first HD SuperFan channel. Just don't want anyone to miss a game if they don't go low enough! :D
