It's been fun to test and play with the R15, but with the very little progress there seems to be in debugging the unit I will be deactivating the R15 in my office and replacing it with one of my other HDVR2s.

When we were getting updates with some regularity I enjoyed testing them and putting the new release through it's paces. But I've got a HDVR2 in an empty room used to record our overflow shows and I don't see any need to pay an extra $4.99/mo to keep the R15 running.

For anyone interested, there are two major reasons I'm putting the R15 to sleep at this point.
  • First Run/Repeats: I don't know what happened, but back under 10C0 I had a thread that was showing many FR/Repeat problems were solved. But I don't think that version made it national. 10C8 lost those enhancements that 10C0 had. Even today with 10FA FR/Repeat is ridiculous unless you only watch the major networks.
  • Trick Play: It's been said before, but 30 second slip <> 30 second skip. I can skip a 2-6 minute commercial break on my Tivos in 3-7 seconds just using the 30 second skip and skip back buttons. On the R15 it takes anywhere from 6-20 seconds to perform the same function depending on if your unit is responding to remote key presses at that time.
I'll still be here reading and trying to help, and once I see any progress with the software I'm more than willing to reactivate my R15, but at this point my DTivo units are just more complete. Plus, as I've stated before, I just don't think we're going to see much progress with the R15. Despite the fact that HD only makes up 10% of DTVs customers, the HR20 seems to be getting the lions share of development resources and bug fixes and the R15 isn't.

I guess you could say I've lost interest in playing with the R15 just as DTV has lost interest in fixing it.

Thanks for all the help that you've given. I know I've learned quite a bit from your posts over the last year.

I'm with you about about how the repeats problem has come back lately and I've always found it easier to FFx2 then jump back instead of using the 30 second slip. But I still like my R15 better than my R10. I'm still holding out hope that they will get the little bugs out. At least for another 10 months until my commitment is up. Then I might have to explore my options.

Thanks for all your past remarks and any future remarks you're able to offer. FWIW, I think you're making a sound decision. If I weren't so blinded by sunk costs and the hassle of change, I'd join you. At some point, I may do so anyway. It's probably better all around than continuing as a disgruntled customer, which is a polite way of characterizing my own feelings with respect to DTV.

A reasonable decision under the circumstances. I may join you in deactivating my R15 since it is still the least used system, basically just for testing and the occasional overflow recording when my wife doesn't have an extra tuner on her R10. :D Thanks for all your analysis and suggestions.

You hung in there longer than I thought Wolf. If it were not for getting the box for free and having a working DTIVO as a backup I might do the same. As I said before , great concept, pi$$ poor implementation and even worse support.

I'm pretty close to doing the same with my DSR6000. I'm sure I'd have done it much sooner if I used the R15 more than I do.

I just got a 3rd DSR-704 (which I'll be networking with the others). My R-15 will be going in the guest room, or maybe the kitchen.
Not ready to deactivate it just yet. I still like the UI better, I just don't like the operation as well as the DTiVos.

And I can't network it or add a larger drive, so..

Just kidding but "you" lost interest ? Have you seen me around much ? :( I used to be here 2-3 times a day and post 5-10+ times a day.

I bought my parents an R-10 for Christmas, which a few weeks ago would have shocked everyone here that knows me.:eek2:

The R-15 won, it beat me. I dont bother to check the TDL anymore and if it records it records, if its a partial who cares, if it doesnt record I just ask someone at work what happened or look on the net. I cant go through all this BS just to watch TV anymore. The HR20 is no better really so thats not an option.

Its so sad that almost 14 months since release many of the problems that were there on day one are STILL there.

Its so sad that my two R-15's in the same room, plugged into the same strip, connected to the same TV can work so differently.

Its so sad to see feature after feature rushed and added to the HR20 when we have been waiting 14 months for some of them.

I am not going back to DirecTiVos "yet" as my one R-15 is still reliable but the leased R-15 is going back as soon as I get the next update and verify its more stable with 40+ SL's.
