Native just means that what ever the source resolution is, is what will be sent to your display. This could be good or bad depending on your situation. For me it is better to use native due to my preferences about how I want content scaled. You will need to try for your self it Native or setting a fixed resolution is best for you based on your display.prie68 said:During a video I saw they say to keep the Native off. Wouldn't you want this on to auto jump to the best resolution? I'm not really sure how the Native works.
I have mine set to native. I have all resolutions selected except for 480i. Wish the pause between channels wasn't there but I am getting used to it.btmoore said:Native just means that what ever the source resolution is, is what will be sent to your display. It's getting better with every update.Twosted said:Wish the pause between channels wasn't there but I am getting used to it.
Native would be great if in fact there wasn't that pause and jumping every time there is a channel change. I just recently turned it off because it just takes so long to channel surf with it on; and I mostly watch HD stations so, there isn't much need for it.Twosted said:I have mine set to native. But isn't SD programming 480i? What happens when you select one of those channels?Twosted said:I have mine set to native. I have all resolutions selected except for 480i. Wish the pause between channels wasn't there but I am getting used to it.
It upconverts it to 480p.Slip Jigs said:But isn't SD programming 480i? What happens when you select one of those channels?
Thanks -Twosted said:It upconverts it to 480p.
I watch them in stretch. That's just because I lost a tv to burn in. I know it can't happen with my current TV (LCD Projection) but I'm still paranoid. If it is upconverted to 720p, yes you should see a difference. The picture, while not true HD, will be way better than the 480i picture.Slip Jigs said:Thanks -
Then will you watch in 480p 4:3 or will you set the TV to stretch? If you upconverted to say, 720p (with native off) do you see a difference in the picture? (I have native off and that's what I do - it seems to look a little better than 480p, but it's really hard to tell.
I use the smart stretch on the TV which seems better than the regular stretch in teh HR20. The only problem there is the menus are stretched beyond the screen.Twosted said:I watch them in stretch.
