Last night KING5 in Seattle was scheduled to air Game 1 of Vancouver vs Boston. Instead they aired their regular programming. :nono2:

Anyone know how else we (Seattle area locals) can watch future games?

Particularly annoying is the fact that Vancouver is the closest NHL team to Seattle is in the finals.

They did the same thing a few years ago. But then they shifted the games from KING-5 to KONG-TV. Is that station still around and did you check it? King-5 is advertising they will show the next game on Saturday.

Yeah, looks like they've done the same thing in the past: "Because of its relationship with KING, KONG can air NBC programming that may get displaced by other programming such as local events, or by local interest. An example of this is when in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, KONG aired NBC's coverage of the Stanley Cup Finals for games that occurred on the East Coast, with KING airing local programming and news in its place and ceding that more viewers usually watched CBC's NHL coverage on CBUT."

here is an "official reply"

The practice for the last few years has been to air any weekend NBC Stanley Cup final games on KING, with weekday games airing on KONG. That is the case this year as well. Games will air at 5pm PT as follows:

Game #1 Wed, 6/1 KONG
Game #2 Sat, 6/4 KING
Game #5 Fri, 6/10 KONG (if needed)
Game #6 Mon, 6/13 KONG (if needed)
Game #7 Wed, 6/15 KONG (if needed)

Games 3 and 4 are on Versus, not NBC.

That's funny! KING-TV & KONG-TV. Someone used their marketing skills!

I don't recall any Thunderbirds games being televised. KONG often shows NBC content, such as Meet the Press (which KING broadcasts at 6 am and KONG repeats at 10 am). A lot of KONG's programming is repeats of that on KING (Oprah, Dr. Phil, etc.) Both stations are owned by BELO and share studio and tower facilities.

Doesn't Seattle support the Thunderbirds (WHL) pretty well?

Well, this should kill off NHL relocation talks for the SEA area!
If we are talking about KING's footprint, then you need to combine Everett and Seattle's support and once you have done that, realize that neither team plays in Seattle proper.

And television decisions made by an affiliate really have no bearing on whether a city could support a team (not that I think Seattle can) but I get the feeling you already knew that. ;)

Looks like Seattle did pretty good for Game 2 after low ratings for Game 1
