I am getting SOOOOOOO tired of ads taking over during programs.

While watching the reruns of So You Think You Can Dance on MTVHD, for example, they constantly ran pop-over ads so large that they completely obscured one of the two dancers.

I think large and even smaller pop-over ads, which are on just about all network shows now to varying degress, are a disgrace and are something that dramatically cheapens the program being shown.

I wish someone would tell that to ABC and ESPN. Watching the game the other night I was losing almost 30% of the screen between the gameboard on top and the running infoboard on the bottom.

Did anyone see the Simpsons a few years ago when (in cartoon format) they had a pop-over add for American Idol, and in the show, Marge saw it, and told it to get out of here with a broom. It was hilarious!

A pop-up blocker on TV would be awesome, but we'll probably never see it. Much much ad revenue generated.

Basically, the networks have figured out that with the advent of the DVR, no one watches commercials anymore.. So this is the only way they know how to force you to watch what they really want you to see.

It makes me want to stop watching live TV altogether and just watch the TV series when they come out on DVD. We already do that a lot as it is.

I'm beginning to think that the best way is to email the advertisers and complain.

I'd be happy just to get rid of network logos/bugs on 16x9 programming that are placed in the corner of the 4x3 version of the broadcast. At least the ads are just temporary. Half of the time watching the olympics i kept being drawn to the nbc olympics logo near the middle top of the screen and made me think about how technologically backwards their broadcast is (also, see the LIVE logo attached to 3-hour delayed west coast broadcast).

I think that would be doable by some intelligent software....

The only thing I watch with commercials is football, so it's not really an issue for me.

But these pop-up ads certainly show how much the networks respect their content. Why should we get excited about it when it is useless except as a background for advertising?

If seeing the pop-up ads is a trade off for being able to FF through commercials then I would rather have pop-ups. It's a very small price to pay IMO. The key to dealing with the pop ups is to not allow them to bother you and realize that in the grand scheme of things pop-ups are no big deal.

They're a big deal when they cover up the captioning and you can't see what's being said.

When I get tired of the the pop-up ads, and the intrusives graphics during sports,
I just zoom my HDTV one or two levels -- eliminates all or most of the unwelcome
and distracting clutter -- problem solved.

Also, I zoom-in quite a lot during certain sports events in HD, when I want to get
a tight shot of the action.
