I have a 721, 510, and 501 in central location and their RCA outputs are connected to a 3 channel modulator box that puts the signals on coax channels that I select. I then split the coax and run it to all tvs in the house. With this setup (and extra UHF remotes), I can watch any receiver (and dvd program) in any room of the house. It just requires that I pick the correct tv channel and switch the UHF remote channel to match the receiver I am trying to control.
I used to have this setup in an entertainment center and I extended the antenna's by connecting a six foot piece of coax to each one so that they could be placed at the top of the entertainment center instead of inside. This extension worked very well.
During a basement remodelling, I relocated the receivers from the entertainment center upstairs to a closet downstairs. I ran long coax runs from the basement downstairs so that the antennas could remain at the top of the entertainment center upstairs.
The problem is that the UHF remote operation was never the same. It seems that the long coax runs must be changing the signal properties. I am looking for some advise on how to fix to this work perfectly.
Note: I do notice that putting the remote to you head will magicaly make it work. (I am not sure if I am enhancing or muting the signal). Putting it against a metal object will also positively affect the signal.
I have been thining about getting an IR extender system setup but that gets expensive since you need IR receivers next to each TV. I would be interested in anyone's experience with IR extenders as well.
Thanks,
david
