I have three "old" receivers and a newer, HR20-700 receiver. My HR20 worked fine Tuesday night, but stopped working on Wednesday and says that it is searching for the satellite signal. My three old receivers work fine. I rebooted, checked all the connections, etc., and it still doesn't get a signal (signal strength is all zeros for all satellites, both tuners). I even swapped the HR20 with one of the old receivers - the old receiver worked fine where the HR20 was, and the HR20 had the same signal problem in the location of the old receiver. I've spoken with customer service and they insist that it isn't necessarily the receiver (a supervisor suggested that it could be a voltage issue??) and that I'd have to spend $80 to get a service technician out.

Is this definitely a receiver issue, or could it be something else?

Thanks in advance for your help.

By switching one of your other receivers with the HR20, it would seem to clear the dish, cables, etc. since they perform properly with the other receiver in place of the HR20. Since the other receiver performs normally when operated at both locations, it doesn't sound like a line voltage issue. Sure looks like the receiver to me!

A positive update!!!

I now have all my channels working again. Started getting SD channels during the day on Friday. By late Friday night, I had all my HD channels as well. Never got around to swapping out the BBCs, as the issues appears to be resolved (at least for now). Very strange, but I'm happy not to need a service call.

Thanks again for your time and help.

Maybe needed to resend authorization for your receiver access card. Maybe this just happened on its own? Who knows. Glad it's working again. If needed, you can go online to DirecTV and resend authorization to any receiver yourself.
