I just got a great quote from a Dish vendor for 3 722/622 rcvr's....I need to hook up 6 TV's...I was waiting for Hopper/Joey , but now I am not sure. Don't want to be the ginny pig for a new product. On the 722 rcvr , can both TV's HD/SD stream, or just the HD set??? Thanks !!

722k with sling will give HD to two tv's.
I thought u get 1HD & 1SD with a 722/722k.....now I planned to buy two sling adapters for remote access, but I don't understand how I gain another HD port with the sling... Please explain
You cannot confuse tuners with outputs, both tuners on Dish's HD receivers are HD, it is the output on tv2 that is sd and is marketed this way. The 722k has slingbox built into it and is used by the tv2 output, the sling adaptor that Dish sells allows tv2 to be viewed as HD. The sling adaptor only does this with the 722k and 922 models and the 922 is not available through Dish at this time. Other option for HD output on more than tv1 would be to wait for the Hopper/Joey system.
The ViP722/722k do not come with the Sling Adapter built in. It will need to be purchased separately. I think you kind of answered your own question too... if you don't want to be a "guinea" pig for a new product (Hopper/Joey) then you don't want to wait for those to come out and then deal with all the growing pains that might be there at initial release.
Getting 722 receivers and using Sling to get some additional HD on other rooms sounds like the more stable way to go to me.

Please understand, to use Sling to get HD in other rooms would require a computer or some other such device to be connected to the HDTV to receive the sling. This is not something Dish will setup for you or support.
As they come from the factory 722s will output to 1 HD and 1 SD each and share recordings between the two. Both locations can do Blockbuster streaming if the receiver is connected to the internet. If you connect a Sling adapter to it, that will take control of the TV2 location and allow remote viewing on a mobile device or computer.

I think you have two factors to consider.
How soon do you want the system? If you are able to wait a few months you can see the initial user reports on the stability of the Hopper.
How much 'guinea pig' worth it to you? I suspect, although I have no real evidence, that the Hopper may be fairly stable, even on initial release. Is it worth it to you to be a 'guinea pig' in order to have the latest and greatest. The speed that it is reported to have because of its chipset seems cool. Will you be kicking yourself 6 months down the line because you don't have the latest.
Obvioiusly, my preference would be to wait for the Hopper. Good luck with your choice.

My. This has become very confusing. Here's the problem with this mix of answers.
The 612/622/722/722k series of "boxes" have two HD outputs, but both are "outputting" the same signal - if you feed one TV with the HDMI output and another with the component video/optical audio outputs the two TV's will see and hear the same thing. However, it is awkward to run a long HDMI cord between rooms and the component/optical is even more awkward for a long run.
Then there is the SD output which can be directly connected or through RF coax, the latter capable of feeding a number of SD TV's. That signal can be different from the HD output. This allows for two viewers, one HD, the other SD, to control what they see.
The issue is what you need in your household to make everybody happy. If you have six or more people living in your home who ultimately will need to see six different shows in HD at the same time, that can't happen with 3 of these boxes.
If, on the other hand, 95% of the time only three HD TV's will be on at the same time it might be possible to use three boxes to feed them. And as long as three TV's are SD, three boxes will work for you.
The issue is always how many sets of eyes are on separate TV's.

Awesome posts everyone....thank you so much for all the info .....I think I will wait for the Hopper & Joey(s)....I like all the options that it gives me and the available HD sets. The latest/greatest available rcvr is what I really want. I am looking at getting 2 sling adapters, one for me when I travel and one for my daughter in college.

If you go with the Hopper, you will not be allowed any Vip receivers, it's one type or the other. Two Hoppers with four Joey's will give you 6 different HD feeds active at the same time.
Is this a Dish regulation? I will be a brand new Dish customer, how come you can't get a VIP and a Hopper?
Don't know why Dish is not allowing both.
I'd have to assume it has to do with the ethernet over coax stuff.

It seems to me that if this is the case, it could be a killer for many users.
It would seem then, that if a customer wanted to have a VIP receiver in addition to a Joey, then he/she should be allowed to install a second dish to feed the VIPs and have the best of both worlds. I, for one, would go this route as I like the OTA option and have a couple of purchased VIPs which I would use.
I certainly would NOT go this route if I had to set up a second account.

NO, the 813 [hopper 2000] doesn't have internal Sling.
