Guys-
I've been trying to get an answer from Dtv customer support regarding install questions but for some reason they haven't been able to help me out.

Here is my situation.

I currently rent and I have a 5lnb dish and two hd-dvr's (hr-23's). One in the living room and one in the bedroom.

My bedroom dvr is connected to my home network and internet via a direct ethernet cable from my router to that dvr. My living room DVR is not currently connected to a network because my router is upstairs while the dvr is downstairs and I can't run an ethernet wire from upstairs to downstairs nor does my dvr have wifi capabilities.

Here is my question:
If I wanted to get the whole home dvr capabilities and the new Media Center HD DVR that just came out what exactly would I need to install.

Is there a way that I could have that whole setup done without running any additional ethernet wires from upstairs to the downstairs living room? Does the new media center dvr have wifi built in? Would I need to run any additional coax cables from the dish on my terrace to any of the dvrs?

I basically need to keep all wiring the same way it is currently (both coax and ethernet) and hopefully can get everything else that is needed via wifi.

Hope this wasn't too confusing because Dtv can't seem to understand what i'm trying to say!

Thanks in advance for any help!

"Seems like"
Swapping the downstairs DVR with the HR34,
Adding the CCK [to connect to your router] upstairs next to your HR23, which needs a white DECA.
Changing out the LNB to a SWiM LNB [plus the PI it needs].
One coax from the dish and a couple of 2-way splitters, and it's done.

If you're going to keep the two HR23s and add the HR34, things get a bit more complicated, as the LNB swap won't work and you'll need a SWiM-16.

Currently WiFi only works for the internet connection and doesn't work well for streaming shows between receivers.

I actually already have the SWiM setup wtih my two dvrs.

The CCK (cinema connection kit correct?) would be needed for the living room (downstairs) dvr though correct? My bedroom (upstairs) dvr is already connected to the network via direct ethernet.

Once you add a white DECA to the upstairs HR23, you're using the DECA networking and you only need a CCK [cinema connection kit] for all receivers on the DECA network.

Does the CCK connect directly to the router? I always thought it was just a wifi usb dongle that went into the receiver to pick up a network signal.
It isn't USB. It can be configured several ways, but it's a DECA device, so coax it the main way and then either ethernet to your router, or there also is a wireless CCK, but it doesn't sound like you'll need it with the ethernet cable already at the upstairs HR23.

pardon my ignorance..so DECA is a Dtv proprietary network?

Correct me if i'm wrong

1. Keep the same SWim set I have currently.

2. Add a white DECA to the upstairs HR23

3. Swap the downstairs HR23 for an HR24

4. Connect the downstairs hr24 to the network via DECA (does it have DECA built in)?

Bigger question- I will obviously get hr24 from directv but should I buy the white deca on my own or go through directv? So the CCK is a DECA setup correct?

There's a bigger question here:
The Home Media Center is the HR34 [five tuner DVR] and not the HR24 [dual tuner DVR]
DECA is DirecTV's MoCa, which networks over coax.
The HR23 would need an adapter added, while the HR24 and HR34 have them internally.
Since your router, or ethernet cable is close to the upstairs HR23, that's the easiest location for the CCK to be added, which then in the internet connection for all the receivers on the DECA network.

Great thanks!
So should I do the whole order and setup through Dtv or should I buy the white deca myself- this is it correct?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DirecTV-DEC...ltDomain_0&hash=item256623e16e#ht_1055wt_1141

And just get the hr34 (I never meant to say HR24) from dtv and have them install that.

You'll still need the CCK, and I can't figure DirecTV is going to soak you for a white DECA, Hell the installer may just give it to you.
The HR34 is the main focus, and DirecTV likes adding the CCK to it with MRV, so it would seem that is the best way to go.
If they end up with something weird, "then there's eBay".

Great! I'll just call them up and hope I can get the HR34 for $99 like others have been getting
