Need Help with Semi-Complicated Install

I live in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. Does anyone know of a professional installer I could contract instead of the local company D* uses?

The reason for this is because I have a somewhat more difficult install to do. It's an apartment on the third floor of three (see picture 1, top left apt.). They will have to put the HD dish on the roof of the complex (they will have roof access) and drop cables over the side and go in through the wall about 15 -20 feet down. They can do it in the tracking that the local cable company uses on the side of the building (see picture 2).

The complex is allowing me to do this only if it's done professionally. The cables must be tucked away and not just left dangling in the air to be seen by all. There is another HD dish on the roof with the same scenario about 60 yards away on the other side. I'm afraid that I'm going to get installers that won't want anything to do with this, or will butcher it. I've thought about offering them a C note for motivation if they can get it done correctly, but who knows. The last installers I had in the area, about 16 months ago, I had to twist their arms just to do the install. Then they left all their equipment behind and never came back for it.

Btw, the deck is facing south. So there may be a slight chance of getting a signal through the palm trees from the deck, but they are very tall.

Can you arrange to tap into the other dish? Typically all it takes is coordination with the other dish user(s) and an extra switch (or splitters.) And typically makes the building owners happier to have fewer dishes.

Cheers,
Tom

I think the other dish would be too far away, but I can check. But that still leaves the problem of dropping the cables over the side of the building, which is my major concern. They don't have a problem with putting a dish on the roof. They even have a back wall that it can be mounted to that nobody will see from the ground. I guess my biggest concern, based on the installers that came last time, would be they wouldn't want to do the job or would do it half-baked.

All my sports packages start just prior to the install (ESPN GamePlan and NFL Ticket) and I would have to eat all that money if I need to cancel my D* service (since they don't refund sports subscriptions once they start). And if the install is done wrong, they will either have to come back out and do it correctly or I will have to have it removed altogether. So my goal is simply to get it done right the first time. But it's a crapshoot as to what kind of installers I will get. That's why I wondered if there's a better company in the area to contract to do the job.

Btw, does anybody think I could get a signal through the palm trees from the deck (which would solve all the aforementioned problems), since the deck is facing south?

Your look angle to the satellite is SE. Does that big tree obstruct the view?

Otherwise the palm trees shouldn't be a problem, you should be able to shift left or right to clear them.

It looks like the dish would have to point at least partially towards the big tree. It's hard to tell if it will clear it or not w/o having access to the deck. So I may not know until the installers actually come out as that is move-in day. It's my fear that it won't work and I'll have to go with plan B and do the roof install (building roof, not the deck roof).

Is it reasonable to expect that the install company that D* sends out should be able to do the more complicated roof install with the cable tuck?

That tree looks to be about the same height as the building and at least 20-30 feet away. The look angle to the satellites in the L.A. area is about 45 degrees off the horizon, so the tree shouldn't be a problem even if it grows 20-30 feet higher, but I'd still mount the dish back a ways from the south edge of the building so even if the tree grows twice as high, it would still be far from obstructing the line of sight.
I had a similar situation in a three story apt building (I was on the first floor) where they did a non-pen roof mount with the dish, ran the cables down the side of the building. They were able to just tack the cables so they weren't dangling free, but yours should be even cleaner. I was/am, however, in Minnesota so you'd have different installers.

Can you ask the neighbor with the dish who did his install? Maybe you can get them to do yours.
