I've had it with my hr21-700, i am planning on reactivating my hr 10-250 hd tivo even if it means i have to watch my programs in standard def. If i do this will directv try to extend my commitment another 2 years? also will they change my programming?i currently have the old total choice plus locals and the east coast dns grandfatered. btw i will still keep the hr21-700 in hopes of watching some sports programing like nba league pass in HD.
Quick answer: I don't think they will extend your commitment but you will lose increasing amounts of HD programming. Your locals will go MPEG4 soon, and almost all national HDs will be MPEG4 as well.
I'm tired of getting black screen when i go to watch a recording, also seem to get searching for satellite every couple of weeks. Its just so frustating,i'm really lucky my wife hasn't lost any of her dancing with the stars or prison break programs or i'm sure she would of had me switch to verizon fios by now!,As a matter of fact they called me yesterday but i said no thanks because they dont have nba league pass, but they said theyd call me back saturday with some exciting new information that they couldnt reveal until then.
99% of these problems are caused by dish misalignment. Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength".
Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples. A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

Some of your signal levels are below what they should be. I'd recommend calling DirecTV and telling them about your blank recordings and low signal levels and get a realignment.
If you switch to the HR10-250 you will probably still have the same issues.
I tried to activate my hd-tivo tonight the csr couldnt get it to work, she kept telling me to hit the red reset button, but the tivo doesnt have a red reset button!,then she tried to send me another directv dvr i said NO THANKS. I will try to activate my hd-tivo again tommorrow. I will also try and get them to send someone to realign my dish.
