The current Standard Def, standard receiver is the D11. It is fairly small...

10-1/2 wide x 7-1/4 deep x 2-1/4 high. You will need a couple of extra inches on the depth for cable connections. I would suggest at least 12" deep.

This is much smaller than any of the DVR's or hi def receivers, so if there is any possibility that you will upgrade it in the future, you will need a substantially larger space.

slh66,

Welcome to DBSTalk! :welcome_s

If you can, I would go out to a site like Best Buy or Circuit City and look up the specs on the receivers they currently have. They should have the measurements there. I see that this is going into your daughter's room and all she needs right now is the standard receiver, but like carl6 mentioned, you may want to get the measurements of a DVR and maybe work with those in case you expand later (or upgrade your main equipment and move your old ones into her room, etc.).

Another thing to keep in mind is to build in enough space for ventilation - you do not want a cabinet in which the receiver "just fits" or you could be dealing with some heat issues.
