Network connection/reciever location

we have a vacation home, if we connect the HR20 to the internet there, can DTV tell where the physical location of the reciever is? I know they can from the phone line, callier ID but was wondering if they can from the internet???

The bottom line answer is “yes”. While D* would not be able to pinpoint the actual street and maybe not even the neighborhood, they would be able to tell that the receiver is connected to a different subnet. If you have multiple receivers on the same account “phoning home” through two different IP addresses, then they would know for sure that you had broken the terms of your service agreement.
AFIK, there is nothing that prevents you from connecting a receiver at a different location.

The only problem that I am aware of is that unless both locations are in the same DMA, you will not be able to receive local channels at the second location. I believe that the local channels depend on your billing address, not the location that might be obtained from your IP address.
