I been working to trying to network my HR20 for the past week and no luck . I've sent PM's to those who have been successful and read the tips/tricks serveral times, installed/uninstall WMP11, RB'd, etc. but no luck.

Here's what i've done by steps (some detail so i don't miss anything). I'm NOT network sauve so i keep thinking that's my problem.

1.) I connect the HR20 to my Linksys WRT54G router using a network cable cause the two are 2 ft away from each. I was told from a member that this is the best way since it's the cleanest (i.e. no wireless). I connect the cable in port 1 on my router.

2.) I connect my laptop directly to my linksys WRT54G in port 2.

3.) I run the network connection on the setup and the HR20 says it's connected and has internect connection.

4.) I install WMP11 and share my folder through the options , naming it the same name as my computer.


I don't get anything. WMP11 can't find the device, the HR20 doesn't have music & phone option. I thought about calling D* but I figured since i don't have Viiv, they wouldn't be much help.

I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop with a Intel Celeron M Dothan, 1.4ghz processor. I have Win XP. I do use a wireless notebook adapter for internet (i disable when i try the set up.) I don't what to shell $$ for Tversity or other software since I've read that what I have should work.

Shouldn't my laptop see the HR as a device from network connection folder? This is why i keep thinking it's a network and what i'm doing and not the hardware.

Please help!! I really want to make this work.

if your running win xp go to control panel ,Administrative Tools,event viewer click on red marks read whats wrong,go to sevrcies and right click on the one it said ,and turn on, then go back wmplayer and share media

What helped me get this going was going into my Netgear router settings and looking at my range of IP addresses available,then changing the HR 20 to one of them in the network set up page.Also,if you haven't,make sure you enable media sharing in WMP11.I set mine to automatically allow any devices.

I have been able to determine that the WRT54G is not allowing the two devices to see each other. Being a networking expert, I have tried dozens of different configurations (IPs, subnets, DHCP settings, etc.) and a WRT54G firmware update, without success.

Look at the bottom of your WRT54G--which version do you have? And can anyone tell me if the HR20 is "pingable"?

I'll keep you posted if I find a resolution.

I have v4. I won't be able to troubleshoot until tomorow night but I played with it last night again and still nothing.

Had trouble accessing router setup. Was on the "live chat" with Linksys but loss connection and it was way past midnight so i quit. I will try again tomorrow night.

Forget about the Router.. You don't really need to connect your HR20 to the Internet.. It's not like you can surf the web on your HR20, right?

I connected my HR20 directly to the computer via Ethernet ports and a regular Ethernet cable - and BINGO

.. I was immediately able to view/listen to the files in all my "Shared Documents" sub-folders...

(This is an AMD Media Center Edition 2005 computer)..

MY hr20 CAN BE PINGGED so if it is not qworking that is partof the problem. I have manually shared the photos andmusic folders by right clicking on them from explorer in addition toenable sharing in "library" "media sharing"

This is a newbie question, but how does one ping their HR20? I AM RUNNING VISTA X64 AND XP X32.

START -> Run -> cmd.exe

That gives you a DOS command window. From the DOS command window:

>ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (the IP address)

The HR20/HR21 CANNOT be pinged. It never has responded to a ping due to broadcast being turned off on the network device in the HR20/HR21.

It you need to test the local network to see if the HR20/HR21 is on the network then look at the link in my signature for network help and go to section Verify the HR20 for local network connection.

If you are passing the internet test, then you are hooked up and nothing needs to be touched no the network as far as the router or the network setup screen on the HR20/HR21.

If you are having issues with the media server software, ie WMP11, Twonky, TVersity, or any other media server software, go the link in my signature.

because I see that you mean the HR20, not the H20. The H20's Ethernet port is not yet activated.
