Networking the DVR

FINALLY got my DVR to connect to the internet.

After 4 years of hit and miss trying to get my DVR connected via a slinglink, I'm convinced.

BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT,BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT,BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT,BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT,BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT,BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT,BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT,BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT,BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT,BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT,BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT,BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT,BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT, BOTTOM PORT!!!!!!!!!!

The top port may well be the intended port to use for connecting to a network, and it does work when directly connected to the router but it doesn't work on my HR21-700 when connected to the slinglink. The bottom port does.

This has happened before and don't be surprised if, at some point, it flips back to the other port.
word
I had this exact issue with the exact same hardware and every time it rebooted I had to switch ports.
it just switched back today. without re-booting, unless something unseen happened overnight.

Now I have a cable in each of the DVR ethernet ports so that I can switch them at the slinglink which sits on top of my cabinet, rather than pulling the DVR out. Unfortunately it doesn't connect when both cables are connected to the slinglink.

Any thoughts on why that is? if one port is no longer working, why does it matter if it's connected?

More importantly, is there a fix to stop it from switching?
OK, now neither port seems to be working.

I'm thinking about calling Directv to ask for a replacement.

Question 1: will they give me one at no charge?
Question 2; what model could I get? I realise I have no choice, but I expect to get something other than an HR21

1: No charge if you have Protection Plan. And if you don't they might waive the shipping fee.

2: You will most likely get an HR21, 22 or 23. Those three are considered the same class.
