it's about time they took "music" out of the name.
Why? MHD/Palladia has been all music.

Agreed, MHD/Palladia is one of the last stations that all they do is play music pretty much all day long besides a few minor other things.

MTV/VH1 are really hard to find any music on most of the time.

Yes, MTV now stands for My TV (oops, that is copyrighted by someone else).

Dave Matthews Band concert last night looked pretty nice.
Watch the channel for any length of time and you'll see Dave Matthews alot. It is one of a painfully small inventory of big-name live concerts that they have.

Any bets the name change is the beginning of the end of the all music format? I predict within a year it will be all reality and nastalgia shows just like VH1/MTV/CMT which it pulls its programming from.

I saw something this weekend that showed Palladia and MHD as part of the HD Extra Package and when I found time to look today...I'm a little bit confused. I recorded a few concerts this past weekend for me and Mrs. Smiddy. This channel will compete with 101 which is another channel I recorded a few concerts from this weekend. I think it is true that the library for this channel is fairly limited. It means they need to get out and get more concerts into their vaults. They happen nearly daily, they just need to pick a concert and make it happen.

MTV Rebrands HD Music Channel as Palladia
By Vlada Gelman

MTV Networks' high-definition music channel MHD will change its name to Palladia effective Sept. 1.

"It's a bigger, more distinct name for a channel that has grown in size as well as satisfaction among music HD fans," said Tom Calderone, the executive VP/general manager of VH1 who oversees Palladia. "We're also reinforcing that the channel is the home for an increasingly broad range of musical styles and artists in high-def performances that can't be seen anywhere else. We believe these changes will help our distributor partners as they continue to sell HD and strive for the best content."

Palladia will offer more exclusive programming as part of its evolution, kicking off with "Outdoor Music Week" the first week of September. The lineup of outdoor music concerts will feature Madonna, Usher, Dave Matthews Band, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Who, Green Day, Genesis, Jay-Z, Amy Winehouse, Foo Fighters, Kanye West, David Bowie, Snoop Dogg, Sugarland, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Dierks Bentley, Hank Williams Jr., Queen, Will Smith and the Rolling Stones.

Palladia also will host "Hip Hop Weekend" Oct. 4-5, "Classic Rock Movie Week" Nov. 10-16 and "Best of 2008 Week" Dec. 22-28.

The channel's regular lineup will feature a different concert every Saturday at 9 p.m. and films from the channel's collection of rock movies every Thursday at 9 p.m.
