I just had DirecTV service installed Saturday - the day DirecTV launched the C31 in my area apparently.

Regardless, I got an HR34 (HMC) and an H25 HD receiver for a second TV. The C31 wasn't an option at the time. The only annoying thing about the HR25 is that I can't pause live TV on that TV and don't have access to the recording options that I do on the HR34. This new C31 apparently resolves these items.

My question is basically: what are the odds that Direct will let me swap my HR25 for a C31? Is it pointless to call them later or is it worth a try?

Like Fleckrj said, it's worth a try, but chances are they aren't going to do anything for you. Others on here have tried the same thing, and have been told that they would have to pay full price ($99) to get a C31, and would have to return the H25. I believe some were even told they had to pay $49 for installation.

What "recording options" exactly CAN'T you do on the H25 (that you can on the C31)???

Let's keep the terminology straight. The OP has mentioned H25 and HR25. It's obvious its the H25 being talked about as there is no such receiver called the HR25.

I agree that there is no harm in trying to swap the H25 for a C31. But, the sooner the better.

You can set up recordings on the H25, just can't manage recording options and such. There's definitely a difference.

Yes, (JD) - there IS a (big) diff between NOT being able to set up ANY recordings vs changing recording options around.

Since you are a new customer you might have more leverage than an existing customer.

I'd call as soon as possible and explain that you are not at all happy with the way the setup works. Describe what you cannot do that you expected to be able to do.

If they have half a brain they will correct it rather than lose a customer.

Otherwise, maybe you can cancel your service and return everything. Or at least threaten to do so.

The OP does not have a lot of leverage, since they have to pay a hefty EFT if they want to cancel.

Of course, 1 advantage of having the H25 is it doesn't use a tuner on the HR34

There is a two week window to correct a saled order but you ordered before the C31 was available....so you will have to pay the 99. unl;ess you get someone that doesnt know what they are doing

If you are within 14 days of a new install, you will have some options available. Whether swapping an H25 for a C31 is one of those..... you'd have to call to find out.

Is this a limitation of the HR34? I set up all kinds of recordings from my H24 to my HR24s. In fact when I want to schedule recordings across multiple DVRs, it is far easier to do it with the HD Receiver than the DVRs themselves.

When ordering my install they told me that I didnt qualify for the c31 and that Id have to pay 99 bucks. I told them no.
