New Dish customer confused about warranty

Hello. I am a new D* customer. Very pleased so far.
However I'm confused about the warranty and service policies of Dish. They wanted me to pay $5.99 a month for a warranty - but I have all leased equipement - all installed by D*. Why would I pay extra for a warranty on their equipment?

Yeah, that always gets me... though truth to tell... Dish has to replace the receiver during your 18-month commitment otherwise they would be breaking the terms of service... and once you are out of your contract, you can always leave if they didn't want to replace a receiver for you.

When push comes to serve, not replacing/fixing leased equipment is a bad business move if they want to keep a customer.... so I suspect if it ever comes to pass you'll find them willing to work with you.
