I have the 3lnb dish currently mounted on my eve supplying signal to my HR10250. My HR20 and dish are scheduled to be installed next week. A friend had the upgrade done already and they had to move his dish (also a 3lnb) to a block wall.

I don't have a block wall nearby. Can the new dish be mounted on the eve or is it just too big?

I just got the new slimline dish installed last Saturday, to replace my old 3LNB dish, and it is a few inches bitter in circumference. However when you give if a quick look it does not really look much bigger.

The circumference of the mount is bigger (I think by 1/2") and I don't know what the weight difference is.

I have the AT9 and it is not that much bigger. I think the surface area over all is larger, but all together it is not a HUGE difference.

The foot is a touch bigger, but due to the heaviness of the dish, I feel that dipoles
are necessary, so you want to add that into the amount of room needed to
mount it.

Good point. I was mainly talking about the dish itself but yes there are other factors.

This is a D* upgrade. Will I likely be getting the slimline dish or the AT9? I don't know how they will install this if it doesn't go on the eve . . . It's a second story eve with a deck below - can't attach anything to the deck because it's a rolled roofing surface. There's no other location that would make much sense.

The Slimline seems to be rolling out as the new standard dish as AT9 supplies are used up.

Talking to an independent installer here, he recommends against eave install of the Slimline or AT9 because of weight and size issues. However, if that is indeed the only location you could use, there may well be a creative way to mount and stabilize it...I dunno.

Perhaps the installers here have input?

Is this your opinion or do you have some sources to back this up?
During the talk I had with my AT9 installer he was detailing some of the installs he's had recently. He said the larger AT9, not the slimline, is not to be installed on eaves or roofing edges due to weight (he estimated 40lbs) and size (size is detrimental during windy days).

Here's my comparison between new AT9 and older 3 LNB oval dish. Pretty hefty pole was needed too.

When you say "eave", i'm assuming you don't mean mounting it to the underside? Do you mean on the wall underneath an eave? I put my own AT-9 in, and it's not that heavy compared to others. I put mine on a roof ledge (about 3 foot deep) with no probs at all.

Mine is on my eave, and has the 2 support legs. I get a bit worried in windy storms, but it is still there. Definately a wind kite though. The lower two bolts of the 4 bolt base are not mounted as they hang off. I will put up a pic if you'd like. Sounds similar to what you are describing.

OK - do you mean the fascia?. This would be the vertical (usually 2x4 or whatever) front edge of the roof line. If that's the case, I would not recommend that, as the biggest weight difference I noticed is that it's a lot more front-heavy.

As long as it's installed correctly- the monopoles especially, the eave is a decent place to mount the dish. Ya gotta hit that rafter though or a strong gust of wind will rip the dish off the house whether you have the monopoles installed correctly or not.

With that being said- my favorite place to mount the KA/KU ODU is on the siding or with the new S-Pipe mount.

I ordered mine through D* and had a slimline dish installed last week. It is a bit bigger but my wife didn't notice at all even after I told her it was bigger. So its not that substantial. I do think the slimline is a better looking dish though.
