I have Direct with local SF Bay Area channels. A neighbor said his DISH system just switched him to Monterey/Salinas locals "due to a new FCC ruling." What's all that about? Direct is still leaving my locals alone, but sure enough if I log onto DISH's site and key in my address they will not offer SF Bay Area, but instead Monterey/Salinas....

Dish can not seem to get anything right when it comes to Locals. You seem to be closer to the SF area. The Directv website still shows SF stations for Los Gatos.

Isn't Santa Cruz County part of the San Fran market?
Santa Cruz County is the Salinas/Monterey DMA. Los Gatos is in Santa Clara County and is part of the San Jose/San Francisco DMA.

Not sure why DISH would give Salinas locals to Santa Clara County... Odd.

Might be because of E*'s spotbeams for the SF Bay area's DMA don't reach your area, and DIRECTV's do. Other than that, I don't know.
Not a chance. Los Gatos is a stone throw away from San Jose. San Jose is part of the SF DMA. If Los Gatos is outside Dishes spotbeams, MUCH of San Jose would be as well...

I feel bad for your neighbor and would certainly encourage him or her to fight with Dish... That makes no sense whatsoever.

Is the post office where the zip code is based in another county?

The post office should still be in downtown Los Gatos (95030). We're in the mountains (Santa Cruz Mountains) with a ZIP of 95033, but that still encompasses Santa Clara county (which I am in). My neighbor confirmed he also told DISH he's in Santa Clara county, but they want to give him Monterey (which offers far fewer local channels). He's probably going to switch to Direct over this.

I don't watch a lot of local channel programming, but I do like the morning babe on KGO-TV news :D
