Hi guys.

I've spent the afternoon reading this forum and gleaning a wealth of info about the HR20. I now know something about BBC, FTM, MDU, AT-9 and Slimline dish, UNOFFICIAL HR-20 Tips and Tricks, HR-20 Installation Tips, HR20 Flaws and Workarounds, and on and on.

But, more importantly, I've learned that I should stay the h*ll away from the HR20 and be content with my H10 until Directv fumigates the bugs out of it, as I don't really care to be their beta-tester. There was a time when I had no problem being part of the first end-user crowd for new products, but not anymore. The real deal-breaker for me was reading about the lack of OTA integration. I really enjoy that feature with my H10 and don't want to do without while waiting for an update.

Anyway, I enjoyed reading the forum and short of Directv giving me a free HR20 for Christmas, (yeah, like that's going to happen), I'll do without, thank you very much:)

Welcome to the forums! :welcome_s (and glad we could help.)

I stayed away from the HR20 until I got a great deal from D*. Now my HR20s are in a lab i've setup and my HR10-250's are still doing the bulk of the work. Once the unit is stable and OTA enabled, I'll consider moving things around again.

So, I suggest calling D* every other week or so until you get a CSR or customer retention person to give you the HR20 for free. Hopefully before it can arrive, we'll all have the upgrade that will take us out of beta testing mode... :)

Cheers,
Tom
Yea, but for that week or so that the HR20 works... It's a good machine. I can't stand to watch my old SD TiVo unless it's on an old TV. I'd rather watch something horrible in HD than something good on SD. Yes, strange...

The HR20 really isn't all that bad. Yes, there are still some bugs to be worked out but thanks to the users on this forum, many of the bugs have already been squashed and OTA is only a heartbeat away. Don't be too afraid. The HR20 will work for you and as tibber said earlier, keep calling DirecTV. Getting an HR20 for free isn't as hard as you think.
Welcome to the forum...

If I had to do it all over again, I would have waited a little while to get an HR20. In all honesty though it's a pretty solid box. It has its issues still, but most of them are not showstoppers in our house (the wife losing Desperate Housewives a couple of weeks ago was close... :) )

I would think you'll be in good shape in the January timeframe so I would consider calling up D* and checking out the wait. If they're going to make you wait till January I would definitely order.
