I think the "enhanced video quality" means 4K. They currently have 4K on HBO Max but will probably charge extra for it with the new app like Netflix does.

Also "Thousands of Extra Shows at No Added Cost" is "pulling from its library of unscripted lifestyle shows" which is Discovery+ content.
Chief Executive Officer David Zaslav is betting the addition of Discovery’s reality programming will increase the number of people who want to pay for the service.
Warner Bros. plans to rename the service, believing the HBO name turns off many potential subscribers.
This guy doesn't have a clue. The Discovery+ content is going to drive millions of subscribers AWAY from HBO.

And I will be one of them.

So, to get the same video quality I have now, I get to pay a extra $5 a month ( on the annual plan), for something that has less new movies , remember they lost Universal to Peacock, certain Sony Movies( Columbia) to Netflix, all they have left is Warner, which are reduced because Warner Discovery’s money issues.

Also not producing as many new series and their two recent hits, House of Dragons and Last of Us, were ordered and filmed before Discovery took over.

And what do we get in place of all the movies and series gone, more crap like Guy’s Grocery Games, content already paid for by per sub fees when they air on paid cable.

And quality programming like "1000-Lb. Sisters", "90 Day Fiancé", and "Sister Wives". You know you want to see those! 🤣

Perhaps it's nearly time for an HBO 4K channel on satellite?

and you can very basic cable and add HBO for say $15/mo then you get max and they get 0 sub fees for users with that plan.
And the 1992 cable laws says they must offer an add on like HBO with any basic plan.

No, a good chunk of that $15-16/mo you pay to add HBO to your cable package goes to WBD. The ad-free version of the streaming app is included at no extra cost when you get HBO via cable.

As it is with comped Netflix, you may be stuck with the HD version (or less).

The vMVPD's are approaching it from the other side by charging extra for 4K.

Im betting like other comped services, assuming AT&T continues to offer it, you will get the advertising supported version for free. That is what had happened to my comped Hulu and Paramount+ subscriptions from T-Mobile as well.

I wonder how long before Apple offers an advertising supported service as well.

Then it will be just like broadcast TV, except you have to pay for it as well. 😞

DTV HBO could offer 1080p downloads so they could be upscaled to 4k. Stars, showtime, Mgm, offer some . I have never found any on HBO Vod.
