hi all-

I've been lurking here for quite some time, but I've yet to make a post. I've been a Directv user since 1998, but I just upgraded to HD on Sunday and my box is the HR21-100. Anyway, the install tech told me to ignore any 103 signal issues as they were moving everything off 103 to 119 and 103 would be obsolete soon anyway. Now, the install tech could be crazy, but he did a fantastic job on the install and I'm very pleased with the dvr functionality as well as the quality. I just wanted to throw that out there to see if anybody else heard that as well. I'm in NW Indiana by the way. Chicago HD channels if that means anything.

That is exactly wrong. It is the 119 satellite that is becoming less relevant, not the 103 satellites.

If you have signal issues on the 103(s) satellite that may be normal for Chicago, but you should have decent numbers on the 103(c) satellite.

Hopefully one of our members in the Chicago area can tell you what is normal to see on the 103(c) satellite for Chicago.

Yup, exact opposite.

99 and 103 are the new satellites the HD content is being moved to and most locals. 110 and 119 are going to be used for international programming and some locals in the near future.

Thanks for the info. I've had no problems as of yet (knock on wood) but I will see what happens in the future.
I would suggest you post your signal levels for both 99 and 103.
If they're marginal, you'd be better off getting it fixed now - since you just had it installed. If something happens 3 months from now, you'll end up paying for a service call (unless you have the Protection Plan).
