Now I will be able to record so much PPV, it will be impossible to watch it all before it expires!!!!

 Yawn..... what a waste. :new_sleep

Let's hope that the majority of these channels are just temporary placeholders filled with PPV for HD channel count bragging rights purposes, and that they are soon replaced with at least some of the more than two dozen HD channels that have HD feeds available now, but that DirecTV subscribers are still waiting to see.

A big thumbs down for this mornings new HD rollout. :icon_lame !pusht!

It doesn't matter what anybody said. What matters is that there are dozens of channels with HD versions available from the channel providers that DirecTV is failing to make available to their subscribers now.

While the technical department has delivered by providing DirecTV with impressive increases in HD capability, the programming department has failed the subscriber base miserably, given the time elapsed since the last major HD rollout, and considering the large number of HD channels currently available but still missing from DirecTV's offerings.

My understanding is that there are technical things to be worked out with each channel launch, eg. look at the lip sync issue for Planet Green HD. There have been hints that other issues exist with some of the programming that could be provided.

I do not agree that programming has failed us miserably, you just had too high an expectation for this morning, based on nothing but your own lust for more HD.

All the HD channels will come soon, just be patient, or switch to DISH.

Immediate gratification is not always a good thing.

How are ANY of you surprised?? This was the conversation topic of MANY threads for the past two weeks! The rollout went as planned (minus three RSN's), as stated. How is this a surprise??

It is not a suprise, but it is like parents love to say.
I'm not angry with you...just disappointed.

The PPV rollout portion was pathetic to begin with just for channel count. Most of the PPVs say Upcoming all the time anyhow, like they needed more channels that weren't actually broadcasting anything, but what marketing wants, marketing gets!

I thought I read there were going to be some more HBOs in this rollout, guess I was wrong.

Excuse me for taking this thread off-topic with info that's relevant to the thread title.

Note to DirecTV:
When I set my guide to "All Channels", I get 33 PPVHD channels listed.
When I then press "guide" again and do a HDTV FILTER, I only get 12 PPVHD channels.

133
134
135
136
137
138
145
146
147
148
149
150

PPV's Missing from the HDTV Filter:
139
144
163
164
165
166
180
181
182
183
184
185
186
187
188
189
190
191
192
193
194

All the other new HD channels from today show up using the HDTV Filter, and it's 100 minutes since these all went "live", so I don't think it's a issue of my guide not refreshing properly or some other "cache" type of issue.

OK, now y'all can go back to your on-topic bashing.

Pathetic HD rollout by the so-called "leader"
How many HD locals do you get from that other so-called "leader"? Lessee, in my market, #26, the answer is zero.

Leadership is measured in different ways by different people. But you have to put it in perspective. After all, it's just television.

My expectations were sufficiently lowered by the reliable sources who pretty well predicted the pathetic HD rollout that we saw this morning, but to say that the first major HD rollout by DirecTV in almost a year wasn't a spectacular failure to provide their subscribers with an impressive offering requires a "the glass is 1/10th full" (rather than 9/10ths empty) attitude.

It's not like they just found out yesterday that they would have a sudden increase in HD capacity today. Somebody has been asleep at the wheel.

What were they thinking????

Now that the predicted miserably sparse HD rollout has materialized, lets hope that those supposed placeholder channels are rapidly replaced with many of the dozens of HD channels that are available to replace them.

OK, here's my guess on why all the PPV's being added, NFL Sunday Ticket Superfan. Look what they do now, when one of the sports packages or RSN's needs a HD channel they shut down a PPV and put that particular sports program on. So what's starting in a few weeks, the NFL season. Looking at the September schedule I see a max of 14 HD games being shown. Then add in NASCAR Hot Pass channels also being needed on Sundays along with the end of the MLB season and the start of the NBA and it looks like to me that this is why we have all the PPVs being added.

SO, the new satellite and MPEG conversion don't buy them any new capacity? THey are right back in the same boat as before having to cut channels? THat sure doesn;t sound like leadership.

Hopefully they have some more stuff coming soon. Too bad it looks like Mad Men will be done and over before we get to see it on HD. If only I had cable. ;)

Seriously, folks, this is just the first of many rollouts. I can't say why these channels were chosen first, but I can tell you when it's all said and done there will be a lot... a lot more HD channels.
