I have an HR22-100 connected via HDMI to a 4 year old high end Sharp LC42D64U LCD TV with HDCP. It's worked perfectly for 3 years. This week it started dropping the picture but audio still works. Multiple off/on cycles will bring the picture back for a few minutes and then drop. I've restarted the receiver from the menu too. Clearly I have some HDMI handshaking issue. It is on all channels.

Swap the questionable HDMI cable for one you know works. If you have another DVR try it with the HDMI cable. Past experience tells me that other DBSTALK experts will have other ideas. So stand by for additional news and information. Best wishes!

Not sure if either of those posts relate to the OP.

@OP: Your best is to try a new HDMI cable or swap it with one from another DVR. You can also try a different HDMI input on the TV in case the input is failing. While it might seem like a handshake issue, if that was the case, you would not have audio either.

I could not have said it better myself. Actually, I think I did or there is an echo in this thread.

Looks like my Sharp LCD TV has had numerous Firmware updates over the years and I never loaded any. Updated the firmware and so far so good. I'll try to remember to post a follow up after a few days.

Well, this morning the HDMI is still failing, so a SW update on the Sharp TV did not fix it. I tried known good cable, and known good inputs on the TV with the existing and known good cable with the same result.

My receiver's last SW update was 5/17/2012 and I suspect the update created some problem.

Since the 0x5cd software update (5/17 for my HR22-100) I can't get the volume gui generated by my Denon AVR to display on my Pany HDTV. It initially displays just fine when I first turn on the HR but once I change channels it's gone until I power cycle either the tv or the HR. It's definitely a handshake issue involving the new software and doesn't affect the picture or audio.

My HT with a denon 2012 reciever shows up GUI fine. In fact, I work for an HT installer / D* dealer and we only use denon recievers. Never seen this on any tvs.

I called tech support today and after 15 min of navigating voice menus I finally got to speak with a tech. For the first time I spoke with a tech who genuinely wanted to understand the issue, research it, and escalate it. She said it definitely sounded like a SW issue and she searched the bug database and said there was nothing logged in for this issue. She took detailed notes and did an escalation to engineering. She also claimed that someone would be calling me back within 2 days.

I've since hooked it up via component and expect that will work until this SW is fixed.

It is not the HDMI cable, your TV, or your receiver. It is a problem with the 0x5cd version of the software.

For me, the problem only happens when I switch from a SD channel to an HD channel or from an HD channel to a SD channel. I can switch from HD to HD (even from 720p to 1080i and back) with no problem, and I can switch from SD to SD with no problem.

I eliminated the problem by unchecking 480i and 480p from the list of resolutions that my TV can view. I have not had a problem since.
