New Hindi Packages

One of the most popular foreign services, Hindi channels have been mega bucks to Dish and now with News Corp. no longer owning DirecTV, Dish has been able to bring all of the major top Hindi channels to the US market.

As I indicated back in March of this year, I felt Dish was off the mark on its Star channel packaging. Need for a Hindi Drama package. I noted that I emailed South Asian folks at Dish in May with the same sentiment.

So, the same new package I was proposing is coming, but will be called the Hindi Elite Package. The Preview at Satellite Guys

Again, this is just going to increase my monthly spend sadly, but the package is the right combination.

As an aside, the Super Pack will get the two Star Channels for 'free' (no price change).

I have the Mega Pack will still get all my channels like star plus and star one or not. Do you know if 9X and NDTV Imagine is coming to dishnetwork or not because I called dishnetwork they don't know any information about this channel. It would great if they can put 9X and NDTV Imagine and MTV Desi channel on dishnetwork

Is DISH adding two new hindi channels on 9/10?

Thanks
I'm getting a free preview of a channel called "One" (off 61.5). There is a lot of English being spoken so there is some interesting programming for the non-Hindi speaking. During the channel's I.D. it said something to the effect that the network was a service of News Corp.

I was not aware that News corp divested itself of DirecTv. The only News Copr. divesting I'm aware of are some formerly O&O FOX stations that they acquired throough the "New World Media" deal (the deal that stole VHF affilliatates away from the other networks with CBS being the biggest loser at the time).
Star One (free preview until Wed 9/10 morning) does have plenty of English. One recommended English program on Star One is Koffee with Karan (but it does require some interest in Indian celebrities/movies.

News Corp. did divest its stake in DirecTV. The day after Star channels was live on Dish.

Star is on 118.7 and 61.5 only. No 148.

On 9/10, Star is available in two additional packages beyond its current Mega Pack (lower price points). No change to Mega Pack.

I belive MTV Desi is gone (US version), but MTV India is a possibility along with Channel [V], but there is no timetable.

Is 9X and NDTV Imagine still coming to dishnetwork on 9-10-08. Please someone let me know if these channels are coming? What is the channel number?

Dish website is not yet updated with even the elite pack information.

Nobody knows whether any new channels were added either.

Thanks
Elite is available today, but they did not add Star One/Star Plus to Super Pack as expected (not sure why there is a delay in that plan).

Also, I don't think Dish got it all put together properly, so if you have a Hindi package that already has the channels (like Choose any x), you will want to make sure they remove the old package when you upgrade so that you are not paying twice for the same channels.

I dont see the 9X and NDTV Imagine channels on dishnetwork yet. Are these channels also going to be in Mega pack the 9X and NDTV Imagine channels

We have no official word that 9x and NDTV Imagine will be on Dish. Dish will likely not announce until it is close to the channel going live or until after it is already gone live. ;)

Well, I took the new Elite package (tried to get it yesterday, but it was not available then..it showed up on the website today).

However, even though it is listed on the website in my account correctly and advertised on the website with the right list of channels, it is not authorizing to my receivers the right channels. (It is authorizing Set Max and Zee). I could easily imagine the process to create the package and the person doing the setup picking the wrong SET (because not familiar with the programming) and not choosing the right Star because there are two sets in the system (Chinese and Indian).

After going through all of the normal proper tech support troubleshooting, they are doing a truck roll believing it is a receiver problem (wow both my 211 and 722 failed at the same time -- imagine that!) when it is a setup problem on Dish side. This is very frustration as I am upset that:

1) They are not able to have proper access to the right people who can check the package-auth relationships

2) They are wasting money on a truck roll

3) I know my receivers can get Star just fine because I got the free preview this past week just fine

I can't figure out how to otherwise contact Dish to get the problem fixed which is frustrating. And when they do the truck roll, it will be the same problem all over again when their tech says there is nothing wrong with the receiver (or tries swapping the receiver for wasteful purposes).

Edit: Someone from South Asian Dish department saw my email and is looking into the problem.

I do have South Asian's email at Dish, but all the South Asian team at Dish likely get the Mega Pack so they don't pay attention to those on the less rich a packages at closely. Even though this Elite package is $33 per month for just four channels that Indians pay nothing or maybe 25 US cents for per month in India.

There used to be a number exclusively filled with desis in NJ call center. I had that number before but couldnt recall it now.

They have very good knowledge about south asian programming.

I can understand your frustration as i had the same thing when news add on packagw was first introduced.

Thanks

The South Asian team got it figured out. The CEO office can also easily figure out these issues.
