Hello all -

Long time - no chat. You've all been helpful in the past and hopeful you might guide me in the right direction again.

We are back to Direct TV again at our new home and will have an installer out to install a dish, an HR-34 in our family room and an additional HD receiver in our master bedroom. That is all.

A straight forward question - anything I can do or have ready or look out for prior to the install on January 18th? I know it is hit or miss with installers but looking to increase my odds for a no hassle experience prior to my install date.

We really just want to be able to access our content from both rooms - no IPad's or routers anticipated but I'm open to suggestions.

I think so long as you get an installer who has had the proper training you'll be fine. Make sure that you can do anything you want with both receivers, and make sure that they both connect to the internet. Even if you think you don't want this capability now, you should probably get it done at the time of installation.

So we decided to go with an HD-DVR instead of a HD receiver for our bedroom so I called this morning to make the change. (Couldn't find a place to do it online)

I've spent the last 30 minutes with a CSR and her supervisor telling me that unless I have a RVU television the HR-34 is worthless to me? We left it at I'm responsible if the technician brings out the wrong equipment as they're convinced he will.

Also they're not able to schedule me for the 17th of January because "there may be weather issues where I'm living"? (50 and sunny today)

Incredibly frustrating. Not feeling very confident right now.

Not True, on the worthless comment.

the HR34 will provide you 5 tuners and PIP on your main TV. having a HDDVR in the other room will also provide the ability to pause live TV (even if you don't choose to record from there, receivers do not). that being said, be sure to have the MRV setup between the two DVR's so recordings and be viewed from either location regardless of which device does the recording.

if you don't anticipate additional receivers, a SWM LNB dish should be used allowing 1 wire from the dish into the house. this provides for 8 tuners (5 to the HR34 and 2 to the HR2x.

It's true that an HR34 doesn't bring anything to the table compared to having three HR24s attached to the same TV...

So I'm assuming the installer will have the proper equipment to set up MRV if my order is for an HR-34 and a HD-DVR? (whatever they bring out)

Do I need to modify my order or have anything on hand just in case?

Looks like , one HMC HR34 DVR, one HR2x (Probably a HR24), MRV & the CCK. You'll have 7 tuners, so that would be a normal equipment install.
