I just replaced an hr22 with an hr24 and made sure I was connected to the Internet. I reset it and hit 02468 so it would update to the new hi and it doesn't even do any software check at all. I am typing the code at the initial red welcome screen. My old receiver took the update and so did my h24 in my bedroom. What am I doing wrong?

First off the welcome screen shouldn't be red, it's blue.

With the HR24's you have to be faster with the 02468 than other units. You need to enter 02468 the moment you see the DirecTV logo light up on the DVR.

Your waiting for the welcome screen on the TV, some are slow.

RBR when the power light on the DVR comes on 02468.

I upgraded 3 old DVRs to HR24's in the past couple weeks. I didn't try to force the upgrade, but all 3 did it by the next morning.

There is no reason to force software updates when installing new units. If they need the software it will prompt you after being on for 15 minutes with a satellite connection.

FYI if the start up screen has red in it then you already have the new UI. The old UI was solid blue the whole way through it.
