Maybe this is just a "new not yet fully loaded" problem ... I hope so ... I just got a HR34 and a H25 installed today. While the tech was here we went thru the various functions and all seemed very good ...

tonight .. when I press Guide ... I get the pop up window of the channel screen in the upper right and then a big light blue screen that EVENTUALLY fills with the guide info ... moving thru the guide (up/down) seems OK ... then I press EXIT to return to full screen view and it takes SEVERAL seconds before the guide is gone and the full channel view is returned ... this SIGNIFICANT delay did not occur while the tech was here AND it only seems to happen on the HR34 ... the H25 works as expected ... (and currently the H25 is set to 480i SD)

so my real question is ... my area is "supposed" to get the new HDGUI tomorrow (1/11/2012) ... could I be seeing a compound symptom of new install guide download with new HDGUI happening at the same time and it is just coincidence that this started after the tech left??

I've seen a few comments that it takes a day or two for the HDGUI to settle to good response but so far I'm only seeing the "old" guide at this point.:confused:

You won't be getting the HD GUI on the HR34 for a while. My guess, another month or 2. You might want to make sure you have the latest firmware though which is 04C9. It will tell you on the info screen. If not, you can grab that and it may help SOME issues. The dates you are seeing are for the other DVR's and receivers (and don't necessarily expect it on the 11th).

Unfortunately, the box will also be slower on ScoreGuide or Active channels (such as any of the ESPNs, The Weather Channel, etc.) when bringing up the Guide or List. Just something about how those channels work specific to the HR34. Count on that particular quirk to be remedied once the HDGUI rolls out to HR34's but for now, it's the price of early adoption, sadly.

Yepp, works OK for me on other channels, just gives me fits on ESPN.

And yepp, dont expect the HD Gui on the 34 for awhile.

Thank you for the responses ... I DID get the new HDUI on my H25 receiver last night and it runs like a scalded dog ... I did a red button reset on the HR34 and that seems to have fixed the majority of the sluggish guide/list/exit problems on the HR34 ... so I guess now I just wait for the new HDUI on the HR34 with the rest of the world.

As a tip for the future....Don't use the RBR unless necessary, use the menu system to restart the DVR. Most of agree that its a better option than a hard reset....

In order of preference:
1. Menu restart
2. RBR
3. Pull the plug

In our RV when we move the old DirecTiVos never had a problem with hard power off shutdown.

With the new Rupert Boxes should I somehow shut them down before removing power?

Just another step in the getting ready to move procedures.

"Rupert boxes?" Murdoch hasn't anything to do with Directv in quite some time.
