I know that I will need to upgrade my R15 to the HD DVR from Directv. My question is, what DVD player is needed for HD movies? Are there seperate movies for HD?

Sry im new to HD. Thanks.

There are two competing formats for HD DVDs .... "HD DVD" and "Bluray". Check out the DVD Forum at http://www.avsforum.com for more information about these competing formats. Of course you'll need to buy new DVDs, too.

You might also check out an "upconverting" DVD player with an HDMI output. Your current DVDs can look quite good on a HiDef TV.

Blockbuster rents HD-DVDs now? If that is the case no they won't play on the older players as the disc is a higher density format meant to hold much more data. Hmmm going to have to check them out as I didn't know anyone rented them yet. :)

Isn't HD-DVD a high density DVD format like Blue Ray, and not the same as High Definition TV format?
Yes, it's highdensity, but it is High def. So is blu-ray. By the way, as for HD-DVD players, don't do what I did and buy one right now. They are huge and slow and upwards of $800! I would wait until after the holidays and maybe even wait for the Xbox 360s with HDDVD drives in 'em. (Oh, dang, I just recommended a Microsoft product. Haven't done that before.:nono:
