I am new customer as of yesterday. I figured I would share my thoughts on the install and lessons learned so far. I had Comcast previously so this is entirely new territory. The installer was from Multiband. He was very nice and professional. I later found out he had been on the job eight years which was comforting. I had initially asked for a pole install because of a brand new roof. Due to line of sight issues, it had to be mounted on the roof. Kudos to the installer that although it is on the roof you can't see it from the street. That keeps my other half happy... :D

He installed the SWM single LNB down to where the Comcast box came into the house. At this point he was able to reuse the Comcast cable into the house (less than 4 year old cable) so he didn't have to drill into the house which I thought was considerate and I appreciated. He setup the splitter, power inverters, etc all in the prior wiring location and was able to re-route the existing direct runs. We opted for an HR-34 with three HR-25's. The picture quality knocks the socks off what we previously had with our Comcast HD package. The entire install was done in less than two hours including a brief training session. The HR-25's all updated their UI's from a blue UI to a black sleek interface. The HR-34 did not.

As for problems, the only issues we've seen thus far is that we cannot use the DirecTV website to setup DVR recordings and some standby issues. The website tells us there is no DVR available. I've read on here that it can take a few days so I'm being patient there. The other odd thing is that yesterday evening I fired up the HR-34 and its TV only to find that there was no feed coming into the HDMI port. I tried turning both the TV and the DVR off and on to no avail. After calling DirecTV they had me try all kinds of different things like switching cables, etc. They had me hit the red reset button and after a few minutes it fired right up. I hung up with DirecTV and found this website where it seems others have had a similar issue with the HR-34. If anyone has any Tips or Tricks on this issue I'd love to hear it. Or... if you think I should request it is swapped out for a different one, please let me know that, too.

All in all, some oddities but the new channels and picture quality seem to make it worth the growing pains!

Welcome to DBSTalk.com!

I'm glad to hear that you had such a good install experience!

As to the HR34, give it some time. It's a brand new product platform that will have many product updates and improvements as time goes on. Most Directv receivers are updated periodically through automatic software downloads from time to time. Sometimes there are a few bugs and quirks that need to be worked out, and this is something that the software developers work on continually, in addition to adding new functionality and new features.

I think you'll be very happy with your installation. It beats the pants off of Comcast.

Ah, Thanks for the feedback. We'll give it more time and I'm sure the kinks will work themselves out.
All in good time :)

If you're interested at all in the software development of Directv receivers, you can take advantage of the Cutting Edge testing program right here at DBSTalk. Look HERE and read about how to opt in to the group to see what 'all the fuss is about'. If you're inclined it can be pretty fun!
