Is Dish going to carry the new MLB channel that is debuting on 1-1-09?

Nope. The MLB Network is tied in with the carriage of MLB Extra Innings. If a provider does not offer MLB EI, they will not have the MLB Network.
This whole MLB EI debacle is very annoying.
If the new MLB channel is similar to the NFL channel, hopefully it could be carried.

Dish doesn't have Sunday Ticket yet carries the NFL Network.

That's irrelevant. The MLB Network is a totally different situation then the NFL Network. Search MLB IE threads from Spring '07 and you'll see links to articles that basically say the same thing as what I posted above.
I believe that D* is also a minority owner in the channel.
As do the cable companies. The MLB owns 2/3's of the channel IIRC, the remaining 1/3 is split up between DirecTV and iNDemand.

Yes it is. Unless a miracle happens and DISH has MLBEI next spring I will changing providers.

May as well make the switch now. The earliest you'll see MLB EI on Dish is 2014.
That is when the exclusive 700 million, seven-year agreement (2007 thru 2013) that MLB, Direct TV and InDemand have expires.

From Raymie (in Arizona):

"What happened with EI:

Dish couldn't just get the package for X dollars (from MLB). They also had to take a stake in the MLB Channel.

Dish didn't want the latter, so they couldn't get the former by extension."

If memory serves me correctly, you''ll need to pay an additional fee over and above the MLB EI charge if you want the HD feeds. I think it's called "Superfan".

I thought about switching, but I'm a Cardinals fan and I'm able to get most of their games through Fox Midwest HD for $5/mo. Why I'm in the Fox SW package when all our "teams" are MW, I have no idea. Anyway, Fox MW is the ONLY channel (other than SW) that isn't blacked out 100% of the time for me, but I sure am glad I get it.
