My ViP612 works fine watching recordings directly from the EHD most of the time. Occasionally, I have had a problem with a recording that, speculating here, seems to be related to the size/handling of the data stream going through the USB system. I restore those back to the 612 or sometimes I am able to watch them from the EHD on my ViP722 without the problem.
There's nothing special about the process. The menus are straightforward. But my observations in comparing the 612 to the 722 is that the 612 is a bit "kludgy". Any particular question or problem you have?
