New sub signed up yesterday. Install isn't until 8/25 which sucks because the Olympics will be over. Anyone know which HDDVR I will get and will it matter if I want to get on demand?

You will probably get an HR21. No, it shouldn't matter. Both the HR20 and HR21 supports on demand.

It will most likely be an HR21 but it does not really matter what you get.

The only real difference between the HR21 and HR20 is the HR20 has internal OTA tuners and the HR21's needs an add on unit (AM21) to add the OTA tuners.

As for On Demand all HR21's and HR20's can do On Deman.

90% likely to be HR21, 5% HR20, 5% HR22

More likely 0% HR22, since nobody has yet confirmed that it does or will exist (the same goes for HR23).

I don't think the H22 or the HR22 will ever exist since, IIRC, the number 22 is being skipped for the HD-Receiver and HD DVR Series to avoid confusion with the R22.

I have actually been pretty disappointed with the quality of the on demand. One thing you'll notice with DirecTV (on a HD set) is that standard definition programming is a little "softer" than what you're accustomed to seeing with cable. Seems like more of the on demand stuff is SD. After you see the beautiful HD quality, you won't want to watch much SD anymore.

You will need to network the DVR to get VOD.

True, but I downloaded 15 hours of HD last week. It's there.
