Hi!

I just came back to DirecTV after a few month hiatus with cable. I've been following the forums and I made sure that the install at my new house would include a SWM LNB. I actually purchased it off of e-bay to guarantee it.

The installer came and worked with me on the install and everything looks good. The only question I have is the way he connected the PI and the SWS-8.

He has the line from the SWM LNB connected to the Out Power Passing Port and one cable from the SWM side of the PI to the In Power Passing Port. The other cables to the IRDs use other standard ports and the unused ports are terminated. What I'm uncertain of is where the IRD side of the PI needs to be used. Every diagram I've seen shows it used. And if it doesn't have to be used, should it be terminated?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not 100% following the first part. Maybe post a pic.

But you can use the PI just as a power supply. Id doesn't have to have an IRD installed.

"IRD port of the power inserter is only to be connected to and IRD, if an
IRD is not connected then this port must be "TERMINATED"

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll get a picture posted as later tonight. But you can't laugh at the mess in my On-Q panel.

I'm having trouble picturing this also.

You should have the line from the LNB connected to the red port on the PI if you split after the PI.

If you split before the PI, you should have the line from the LNB connected to the In port on the splitter. You should then have the power-passing Out on the splitter connected to the red port on the PI. If you have an SWS splitter, the power-passing ports are red in the middle.

No, the IRD side of the PI does not have to be used, but must be terminated.

But, if I’m reading this right, your splitter is hooked up backwards.

The power out from the PI should be connected to the red output.
The SWM LNB should be connected to the red input (where it says in from SWM).

He probably thought that the input was a power input. It’s supposed to be signal input.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I couldn't get a good picture that showed off the detail I felt was needed but beerme's post confirmed the installation was done right even if I couldn't describe it correctly. DVR scheduler is working fine with my HR22-100s and I've setup TVersity and successfully streamed video, audio and viewed my pictures. So far SO GREAT!

Now I just need to clean up the wires in my panel.

Cheers!
