Just had my Directv installed. I have a HD TV. The receiver is an H20 box.
I want to buy a DVR that will allow me to record one channel while i watch another. I am getting conflicting answers . Some say it can be done and some say it cannot. Please help

You can do that by replacing your H20 with a HR20 DVR.
They want 300.00 for that DVR. I don't use it that much. All i want is a DVR that does not cost much and has no fees.

:welcome_s

An HR-20 only runs $199 for a new customer and it may even be less than that right now as I'm not familiar with the current promotions.

Most DTV customers have been able to get that deal and some have been able to negotiate and get it for the price of shipping. Since you have an H20, I imagine you already have an AT9 or AU9 (5LNB dish)? If so, all you need is the DVR.

The R15 only costs $99, but is SD. They all have a $5.99 DVR fee (only once per account, however). You could get two receivers and have one of them feed a DVR, but the DVR would cost a bit and you would pay a lease fee of $4.99 on the second receiver (plus whatever up-front fee there was, probably $49.95.

There are no dual tuner DVRs that have no fee that will work with DirecTV's service. To do what you want to do, you would need to purchase a second H20. You might as well do your best to get the HR20 for as low as you can possibly get (maybe free) and pay the $5.99 fee per month.

You stole my answer bobnielsen!

Hey, that happens to me all the time!

I called DTV the other day and told the CSR that since the web site says I am such a good customer that they will give me a R15 or H20 free (I already have one of each), what kind of deal can I get on the HR20? She replied that there are no deals since there already is a waiting list. She also implied that the OTA rollout was not proceeding very quickly. I guess I'll wait a bit longer. I don't really want to play the retention game.

When the installer was here,he told me that i needed to buy an hr20. So while he was here i called DTV and they said that it would cost me 299.99 and that there was a waiting list. I told her that the installer has 3 HR20s on his truck She had no answer to that but stuck to her position 299.99.+4.99/mo.[No rebates]

Yes you can. It requires two lines for full dvr functionality. You can record two shows. Watch another one and record another ^_^
