I obviously don't want to pay a ridiculous amount of money, but I want to get an HD-DVR unit for my room. I already have a regular box, but I have moved back to my mom's house from my apartment, and I hear that dish network wants to charge a lot for their boxes. Time Warner cable just gave me the box to use while I was with them, so I'm pretty upset about DN trying to charge.

Do you guys know the best option for me? I want the cheapest way to get an HD-DVR.

That is for a lease - Dish owns the box.

my advice? call and threaten to cancel. They probably won't be able to give you a discount on the rcvr itself, but they will probably throw a month or two of programming your way, therefore offsetting the overall cost.
