All depends on the contracts in your local market. SD and HD are different. The HD games are supposed to be blacked out just like the SD but in some markets they are not. The smaller your market the better chance they aren't. In my market last year the Fox games were blacked out but the CBS games were not. This year they are both blacked out.

....well I can tell you...here in Virginia Beach (largest ciyty in VA) we had the Skins/RAMS game on local FOX as well as NFLST SF (HD). The ST (SD) was blacked out but not the SF (HD).

I don't understand the issue. If the game is being shown on a local affiliate then what difference does it make if you get it on the NFLST channel?
Local affiliates want you to watch their commercials, not the national feed commercials. Local affiliates are the ones that enforce the blackouts of the games they show. DirecTV wouldn't do any blackouts if they could.

That may be but your market is only #43 in the country and is not an NFL "home" market. Thus you are in a "smaller" market.

Like I said, it all depends on local contracts with your local affiliates and the smaller market you are as well as if your HD locals are up on DirecTV and when they were added will have more to do with it then anything. Like I said, in my market Fox was always blacked out, CBS was not. Last summer our CBS station signed a new contract with DirecTV to extend carriage and guess what, now the CBS game is blacked out too.

I've always said it's this simple: All SD games are blacked out. HD games are supposed to be blacked out BUT depending on your market you may get lucky, but don't count on it to stay that way.

I'm not sure either. I can only think it affect folks that pre-schedule recordings and don't check the locals for conflicts.
the hd dvr that I just had installed this week won't let you tape games on the st channel if they are on your local channel. The local stations pretty much know by wednesday or thursday what games they are carrying and your local team will never be on st, always on your local station.

That happened to me once already this year. Should have known better. My HR20-700 actually searched for the local channel on it's own when it started to record the blacked out channel, and found the local channel, although it didn't record the game in it's entirety because of the guide data difference in time.

No complaints here. I have not had a game blacked out in SD or HD yet this season.

....gotta love being a large 'small' maket. I just thought our local FOX didn't know about SF....
LOL. Yea, my market is the West Michigan market (Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo) which is #39 but I'd hardly say we're "large". But our market is a bit unique in that we have 4 100K+ citites (GR being over half million) and tons and tons of smaller towns of 20K+. So it all adds up quickly over the whole area. But I can drive 10 miles in any direction and be in the middle of miles and miles of corn. :)

One must remember that the top 10 markets have something like 70% of the population of the country. So we are "small" in comparison.
